J&T Express' ESG Report for 2024 sets out how it integrates sustainability, community engagement and corporate governance across global operations

Founded a decade ago, J&T Express is committed to providing customers across 13 countries with integrated logistics solutions.

Inevitably, as the organisation grows, it must increasingly consider its impact on the planet and the communities in which it operates.

J&T's newly-published Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report for 2024 sets out how it integrates sustainability, community engagement and corporate governance across its global activities. It outlines progress in green logistics, employee safety, information security and innovation, with actions that aim to improve environmental outcomes and promote sustainable growth.

“A commitment to both efficiency and sustainability is essential for building a healthy and long-lasting business," comments Charles Hou, Group Vice President at J&T Express. "J&T prioritises the practical implementation of sustainable development measures throughout our operations."

Working towards a sustainable future

J&T Express expanded its green logistics strategy in 2024 by enhancing environmental practices throughout its supply chain.

Central to this is the company’s first self-built smart supply chain industrial park in Baoying County, in the Jiangsu province of China. The facility features 74,000 square metres of rooftop solar panels which, by the end of 2024, had generated 1,089,760 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity. The expectation is that this will reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by about 7,880 tonnes, demonstrating a more sustainable energy model for logistics infrastructure.

When it comes to green transport, J&T adopts a "four-in-one" model across its network, encompassing fuel consumption monitoring, energy-saving training for drivers and optimised route and fuel structure planning.

In Vietnam, the firm implements a clear fuel reduction goal, aiming to cut usage by one litre per 100 kilometres across its fleet. In China, 4,401 aluminium trailers are added to trunk transport operations. Each of these is 1.5 tonnes lighter than steel alternatives, improving energy efficiency.

What's more, J&T has invested in clean energy vehicles, deploying 1,327 liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicles in China by the end of 2024. This means LNG vehicles account for 26% of the Chinese fleet, helping lower greenhouse gas emissions per parcel delivered by nearly 4%.

Packaging operations are also undergoing changes. J&T is pressing ahead with a global rollout of eco-friendly packaging tools, including reusable transit bags, degradable waterproof bags, 45mm degradable tape and single-sheet e-waybills. In Southeast Asia and new markets, 799,000 new reusable transit bags were introduced in 2024, representing an 80.7% increase on 2023.

Making a social impact

Alongside its environmental efforts, J&T Express has worked to enhance its employee safety programmes.

In 2024, the firm ran almost 60,000 safety training sessions, attended by more than a million participants. These sessions aim to uphold a safe working environment and support a stable organisational structure.

J&T also engaged in social welfare across multiple markets:

  • In Vietnam, it provided practical help to farmers, including assistance with harvesting, delivery logistics and online selling.
  • In Brazil, logistics capabilities enabled the delivery of 300 tonnes of relief materials to regions affected by flooding.
  • In Indonesia, the 'J&T Connect Preneur' programme supported micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), awarding 300 million Indonesian Rupiah in funding to 10 standout businesses.
  • In the Philippines and Thailand, J&T Express contributed to schools by supplying educational materials and launching scholarship initiatives for high-achieving students.

A focus on information security

J&T Express maintains a policy of transparency and anti-corruption across its global network. In 2024, the company completed 94,146 anti-corruption training sessions with a combined 31,355 training hours, in a bid to reinforce ethical standards within the business.

Information security is also a priority. The company builds a layered education framework for data protection, combining training, awareness campaigns and case studies. In addition to its existing certifications in China, including ISO 27001, ISO 27701 and National Information Security Level Protection Level 3, it achieved ISO 27001 certification in Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia, bolstering its commitment to secure data practices across all operating regions.

Moreover, as J&T set a new industry record in excess of 100 million for global daily parcel volume, the business expanded its tech focus by incorporating drones and unmanned vehicles into its logistics network, moving further towards automated and intelligent delivery systems.

"In 2024, we not only achieved breakthroughs in green logistics management, but also continued to promote social welfare and improve the company’s governance framework," continues Charles. "These tangible initiatives align with our long-term vision and deliver positive, effective results in our operational processes.

"Looking ahead, we will continuously build intelligent infrastructure, establish a digital logistics network, champion environmentally conscious operations across our entire logistics chain and contribute to global sustainable development."
