How Carlsberg Sweden is Advancing Electric Logistics

Carlsberg Sweden is expanding its electric vehicle operations by extending its collaboration with freight technology firm Einride.
The Swedish arm of the brewing group plans to use electric trucks to manage up to 40% of its transport needs across the southern and western regions of the country over the course of 2025.
This scale-up continues the companyâs focus on transport and supply chain decarbonisation as part of its broader environmental targets.
Expanding electric logistics footprint
Eleven electric trucks with trailers are being introduced into the companyâs logistics chain during 2025, reinforcing Carlsberg Swedenâs transition to low-emission freight.
The expansion aligns with the brewerâs ambition to decarbonise its transport operations and reduce its logistics-related emissions, which make up a considerable part of the groupâs total environmental impact.
Peter Hammarstedt, Chief Executive of Carlsberg Sweden, states: âWe are excited about our partnership with Einride and the progress we are making towards better logistics together.
âAt Carlsberg Sweden, we are constantly working to take concrete steps towards a more sustainable business, and having more electric vehicles in our transport chain is one example of this.
âWe hope this can raise awareness of the importance of better and smarter logistics - and inspire others to take action in their industries.â
Logistics operations are a significant contributor to Carlsberg Swedenâs carbon footprint.
The company aims to cut approximately 2,460 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year by leveraging Einrideâs electric freight vehicles alongside an AI-powered charging infrastructure.
This transition from diesel-fuelled lorries to electric vehicles is expected to bring about a 93% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from freight activities.
Since joining forces with Einride in 2022, Carlsberg Sweden has already clocked up 340,000 kilometres of electric-powered travel â equivalent to travelling around the world eight times.
Supply chain visibility through ‘Electric Beer’
To spotlight the logistics shift, Carlsberg Sweden has released a limited-edition alcohol-free beverage dubbed 'Electric Beer'.
The product uses 100% renewable energy for brewing, production and distribution, with all transport handled through electric-powered vehicles.
Each can of beer includes a QR code that links consumers to data showing how and where the beer has travelled across the company’s supply chain — namely between the cities of Malmö, Falkenberg and Gothenburg.
The initiative is designed to draw consumer attention to the environmental impact of transporting goods and to showcase how digital tools can offer transparency in supply chains.
The campaign further supports the company’s status as a logistics innovator. In 2022, Carlsberg Sweden became the first alcoholic beverage firm to electrify heavy transport operations.
That move was a catalyst for current efforts and highlights how mature industries can make concrete progress on emissions beyond their production processes.
Linnéa Kornehed Falck, Founder and Vice President at Einride, explains: "Carlsberg has a strong brewing tradition, and with the help of advanced transport technology, it is now carrying on that legacy.
âIt's not just about sustainability; it's about pushing the boundaries of transport technology, with electric power being a step towards redefining how products are transported. This campaign brings that to life and shows what is possible when tradition and innovation meet.â
Delivering results and setting industry benchmarks
By coupling product delivery with electric freight technology, Carlsberg Sweden is reinforcing how logistics choices influence overall emissions performance.
Its US$7.2m investment in electric logistics is part of its broader strategy to meet Net Zero Carbon Footprint targets by 2040, especially in the category of Scope 3 emissions.
These cover indirect emissions from third-party activities, including logistics providers.
The companyâs shift to electric freight also presents potential long-term cost advantages and efficiency gains, suggesting a business case that extends beyond sustainability alone.
Simon Boas Hoffmeyer, Global Head of Sustainability & ESG at Carlsberg Group, highlights the progress so far: âSince 2022, Einride and Carlsberg Sweden have saved over 418 tonnes of CO2e and driven 340,000 fully-electric kilometres.
âThe Electric Beer marks the latest milestone in their partnership, aiming to save up to 2,460 tonnes of CO2e yearly in the coming years.â
