Boots Retail Thailand and DHL Supply Chain partner to deploy a 100% EV fleet for distributing products to more than 250 stores nationwide

In an attempt to create a more efficient, sustainable and future-ready supply chain, Boots Retail Thailand and DHL Supply Chain Thailand have partnered to launch a 100% electric vehicle fleet that will strive to cut carbon emissions by 74 metric tonnes a year.

The partnership will help decarbonise the last-mile delivery of beauty and healthcare products to more than 250 stores and support Thailand’s wider air quality goals.

The fast-charging, compact EVs will produce 24/7, efficient urban distribution with reduced environmental impact, helping to establish a new standard for sustainable retail logistics across the region.

Mr. Mark Koprowski, Managing Director of Boots Retail Thailand, states: “We are proud to partner with DHL Supply Chain Thailand to introduce a fleet of 100% electric vehicles to deliver our medicines, healthcare and beauty products from our warehouse to local Boots stores daily.”

“Thailand is increasingly focused on improving its air quality and this initiative not only supports this direction but also aligns with Boots' broader mission of integrating sustainability into every aspect of our business. We remain committed to reducing our carbon footprint by minimising emissions whilst ensuring the highest availability and quality of our products offered to our customers.”

Sustainability in focus

Boots and DHL's partnership will aim to cut carbon emissions by 74 tons annually (which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions emitted from 176 roundtrips from southern to northern Thailand via a car).

This partnership will directly address the growing pressure on logistics and retail providers to decarbonise operations.

Companies are under an obligation to reduce emissions across their supply chains as consumer expectations change and regulatory scrutiny rises.

By launching a fully electric vehicle fleet, the partnership will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while setting a standard for integrating low-emissions transport solutions into daily logistics operations.

EVs offer a clean alternative to conventional delivery vans while minimising both noise and air pollution in urban areas.

By using them, companies can enhance the importance of sustainability as a competitive and reputational differentiator in supply chain management and support wider environmental goals.

The partnership highlights how targeted investment in green logistics can enhance both business resilience and environmental impact.

Fleet capabilities and logistics efficiency

This partnership will make vital progress toward a greener and cleaner future by adding three EVs to the current fuel-efficient fleet.

The EVs can be fully recharged in just one hour and hold a travel range of up to 250km per charge, allowing the vehicles to offer high-efficiency urban deliveries and reducing downtime between delivery rounds.

Not only does their compact design enhance navigation in urban areas, but the EVs lower carbon emissions and noise pollution mean the vehicles can be utilised 24/7 without disrupting local communities.

This will mean deliveries can be scheduled overnight or during off-peak hours to imropvoe delivery consistency and minimise traffic-related delays.

EVs have fewer moving parts compared to internal combustion engine vehicles, resulting in less unplanned downtime, reduced maintenance costs and greater reliance across the supply chain.

The partnership will improve Boots’ sustainability goals while strengthening delivery reliability, optimising route planning and reducing delays to make the supply chain greener and more efficient.

DHL’s wider sustainability strategy

DHL Supply Chain continues to secure its position as a leading company in sustainability through its commitment to clean operations, transparency and decarbonisation.

The company strives to achieve 30% sustainable drives and fuels across the world by 2026 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

In 2024, the company launched its first fully renewable energy-powered warehouse last year which spans 45,000 metres and also introduced Thailand’s first fleet of Euro 5 standard trucks.

Its recent partnership with Boots Retail Thailand will continue to enhance its commitment to sustainability and leadership in green logistics.

Steve Walker, CEO of DHL Supply Chain Thailand Cluster, explains: “As a trusted partner of Boots Thailand, we are proud to support their sustainability journey.

“At DHL Supply Chain, we are also driving tangible change – including our commitment to achieve 30% sustainable drives and fuels across our global fleet by the end of 2026, in line with our global Green Transport Policy.

“Collaborating with like-minded partners like Boots Thailand, who share our vision for low emission supply chains, accelerates this progress. Together, we are turning our sustainability ambitions into tangible action, delivering emission reduced solutions that benefit our businesses and reduce our environmental impact to the planet.”

What impact will this have on the retail and logistics industry?

Boots Retail Thailand and DHL Supply Chain Thailand highlight how integrating green technologies in large-scale distribution networks will encourage other logistics providers to embrace similar solutions to meet rising environmental pressures.

The initiative will also help enhance the decarbonisation of last-mile delivery, which is often the most carbon-intensive segment of the supply chain, to demonstrate the ability of EVs to enhance efficiency in urban areas.

The partnership will also showcase how sustainability can align with commercial performance, enhancing the case for ESG-driven investment across supply chain networks.

High-profile initiatives like this have the potential to influence national transport policies and industry standards as countries strive to enhance their efforts to meet climate targets. It highlights how EV deployment is a practical and mainstream option for commercial fleets, helping to enhance regulatory support for clean logistics and infrastructure development.
