IFS acquires Softeon to form IFS Softeon, merging industrial AI with warehouse tech to close visibility gaps and enhance end-to-end supply chain resilience

The integration of industrial AI capabilities with warehouse management expertise could signal a shift in how supply chain operations are managed.

IFS, a provider of industrial AI solutions, has acquired Softeon, a warehouse management software vendor, creating IFS Softeon. The combined entity aims to deliver integrated industrial, physical and agentic AI solutions designed to address the complexities facing modern supply chain operations.

The acquisition brings together IFS' industrial AI platform with Softeon's warehouse management capabilities, creating what the companies suggest could be an opportunity to embed intelligence across end-to-end supply chain processes.

According to Mark Moffat, CEO of IFS: "The introduction of IFS Softeon means every enterprise wrestling with the complexity of modern supply chains now has access to something genuinely new: end-to-end supply chain intelligence, from strategic decision-making to physical execution on the warehouse floor.

"Industrial AI meets limitless warehouse execution. That's a combination that will supercharge what's possible for our customers."

Bridging the visibility gap

A common challenge for organisations running separate enterprise resource planning (ERP) and warehouse management systems (WMS) is the visibility gap that emerges between these platforms. This disconnect can prove costly for businesses managing complex supply chain operations.

The IFS Softeon combination aims to address this issue by offering comprehensive visibility supported by industrial AI, domain knowledge, robotics and warehouse management capabilities within a single platform. Softeon brings more than 20 years of warehouse management experience to the partnership, which can now incorporate IFS' industrial AI, physical AI orchestration and AI agent solutions.

This integration is designed to modernise supply chain operations across multiple functions, from fulfilment and labour optimisation to real-time yard visibility and automation. The combined platform offers capabilities that extend beyond traditional warehouse management systems.

Jim Hoefflin, CEO of IFS Softeon, says: "Joining IFS is the natural next step in Softeon's journey.

"Our customers chose us because we deliver. Now, backed by IFS' Industrial AI platform and global reach, we can deliver even more: AI-driven warehouse orchestration, robotics interoperability and predictive inventory intelligence. The future of warehouse management just got a whole lot more exciting."

Physical AI meets digital workers

The IFS Softeon platform combines physical AI and AI agents within an integrated system designed for industrial operations. Physical AI, manifested through humanoid robots and autonomous mobile robots, works alongside IFS Loops Digital Workers, which are IFS' AI agents, to orchestrate warehouse operations.

According to the companies, this approach could shift the role of human workers, with robotics systems handling physically demanding tasks while human staff move to positions requiring judgement and exception handling. This model could potentially address productivity concerns amid ongoing labour shortages affecting traditional warehouse operations.

The integration of physical and digital automation represents a significant development in warehouse technology. By combining robotics with AI-driven decision-making, the platform aims to create more adaptive and responsive supply chain operations.

Managing warehouse operations across 30 countries and processing millions of orders, IFS Softeon holds Gartner visionary recognition. The combined business aims to accelerate development and innovation supporting supply chain resilience through its integrated approach.

Accelerating supply chain resilience

According to a company statement, the acquisition delivers potential value for IFS customers across aerospace and defence, energy, engineering and construction, manufacturing and transport sectors. "Sophisticated global enterprises require warehouse capabilities that match the intricacy of their production systems," the statement reads. "Softeon's proven WMS and WES solutions, now enhanced with IFS.ai, provide exactly that: enabling end-to-end supply chain orchestration where manufacturing, warehouse execution and field service operations work as one intelligent system."

The combined entity suggests its platform could accelerate innovation across warehouse automation and inventory optimisation as organisations work to build supply chain resilience in an increasingly complex operating environment. The integration aims to provide organisations with tools to respond more effectively to supply chain disruptions.

With the warehouse management sector facing increasing pressure to deliver efficiency gains, the IFS Softeon platform positions itself as a solution that addresses both operational execution and strategic planning requirements. The combination of proven warehouse management capabilities with industrial AI represents an approach designed to meet the demands of modern supply chain operations.

The platform's ability to integrate with existing systems while providing advanced automation capabilities could prove valuable for organisations seeking to modernise their supply chain infrastructure without complete system replacement.
