DHL & Michelin Partner to Boost Green Logistics in Thailand

In an attempt to help decarbonise its logistics operations, leading logistics provider, DHL Supply Chain Thailand, has partnered with Michelin to launch an electric prime mover.
The 100% clean energy electric vehicle will minimise emissions by around 195 metric tons a year, helping the organisations reach their shared commitment of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The electric prime mover will transport raw materials between Michelinâs factories and will be fitted with MICHELIN XÂŽ Multi⢠Z2 and MICHELIN X Multi D+.
The partnership will also be part of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between DHL and Michelin to craft services and products that enhance safety, sustainability and circularity in both their local and global operations.
Steve Walker, CEO of DHL Supply Chain Thailand Cluster, explains: âIn line with our Green Transport Policy, we are always looking to electrify our transport fleet within our supply chain and finding more sustainable ways to operate.
âHence, we are excited that Michelin is joining this journey with us to support low and zero carbon road transportation. Introducing our first electric prime mover with them is a crucial step in accelerating decarbonisation efforts.â
âWith our expertise in automotive supply chain management and electric vehicles, DHL Supply Chain is committed to supporting Michelin in its mission to reduce carbon emissions and achieve its sustainability goals.
âInnovation is at the heart of our operations and we will continue to develop solutions that shape a sustainable future for logistics with our customers.â
The impact on the supply chain
Logistics emissions are a vital sustainability challenge, with aviation, road freight and shipping as key contributors.
As consumers and stakeholders begin to demand greater accountability and transparency surrounding sustainability, organisations face more pressure to decarbonise their supply chain.
Collaboration across industries - such as the partnership between DHL and Michelin - is essential to help boost sustainable logistics.
Not only will this partnership help advance green transport innovation through AI-powered fleet management and eco-friendly urban logistics from zero noise pollution, it will also help set a benchmark for green logistics in Thailand and encourage wider EV adoption in supply chains.
DHLâs AI-led tracking and telematics will help reduce energy waste, enhance vehicle performance and optimise fleet routes for minimal impact.
The collaboration highlights the impact EV transport can have on heavy logistics, and how it can help supply chains transition to low-emissions alternatives while maintaining operational efficiency.
The electric prime mover
The electric prime mover is a 100% clean energy, zero-emission heavy duty truck that will improve sustainability in logistics.
It only takes two hours to fully recharge and can travel up to 350km on a single charge. It will operate on two key routes - Phra Pradaeng to Nong Kae and Phra Pradaeng to Laem Chabang.
DHLâs Connected Control Tower will leverage technology such as Transport Management System, Paragon Route Optimisation System, Telematics and DHLâs MySupplyChain digital platform to oversee the operations of the truck.
- Zero-emissions and powered by clean energy
- Efficient and high-performance design
- Smart fleet management technology
- Noise reduction & sustainable operation
DHLâs tracking team will receive real-time incident alerts as these systems will work alongside AI-powered onboard cameras.
DHL's EV drivers will also have specialised training to focus on safety.
The electric prime mover will set a benchmark for green logistics across the industry whilst advancing low-carbon transportation in Thailandâs supply chain.
Michelinâs sustainability strategy
The partnership with DHL Supply Chain Thailand will also support Michelinâs All-Sustainable Strategy (part of the âMichelin in Motionâ strategy).
The strategy balances economic, human and environmental concerns to ensure the organisation leads in sustainable mobility and contribute positively to the planet.
Through eco-design commitment, environmental footprint analysis, resource optimisation and climate action, Michelin strives to maintain its commitment to crafting a more sustainable future.
Michelin has made significant progress towards its sustainability goals by 2024:
- Cut emissions for Scope 1 & 2 by 37% (net zero emissions by 2050)
- Contributed +4.3% to reaching net-zero emissions in use
- 31% circularity of tyres (full circularity by 2050)
The partnership will also help enhance DHLâs efforts to electrify transport fleets across the world and integrate low-carbon logistics solutions across industries.
Ahmadreza Bahrami, Vice President, Supply Chain & Logistics, Michelin Asia Pacific, states: âAt Michelin, sustainability is not just a vision â it is our action plan. Our commitment to integrating 100% recycled and renewable materials in our tires by 2050 is a testament to our leadership in sustainable mobility.
âWe are accelerating the transition to cleaner transportation while maintaining the highest performance standards through innovation and collaboration, such as this partnership with DHL. Together, we are shaping a future where mobility is both efficient and environmentally responsible."
How will this partnership help enhance green logistics?
DHL Supply Chain Thailand and Michelin’s partnership will enhance green logistics by deploying a fully electric prime mover that will minimise noise pollution and cut carbon emissions.
It will mark a significant move in the transition to low-carbon transportation while helping to enhance efficiency by integrating Micheli’s sustainable tyre technology and advanced AI-fleet management technology.
