A consortium of businesses, including Rolls-Royce, Airbus, Ford, and a number of UK-based F1 teams are working together to produce around 10,000 ventilators to the National Health Service (NHS).

DHL Supply Chain has announced that it will be the newest company joining the initiative. Two workstreams of VentilatorChallengeUK will be managed by DHL Supply Chain, whilst it is also tasked with creating a supply chain capable of handling 3.2mn parts from scratch. Collection of parts from a supplier base, handling, storage, order pick and kitting and final end-point delivery will all fall under the DHL Supply Chain network.

Dyson has been working closely with JCB to produce the new ventilators, helping to boost the initial 8,000 that the NHS was working with at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. DHL Supply Chain will support Dyson’s efforts to produce for the NHS on final distribution. Using its existing manufacturing logistics facilities, DHL Supply Chain’s experience in manufacturing will aid the Dyson order of 10,000 new ventilators.

Mike Bristow, DHL Supply Chain’s MD of manufacturing and logistics, said: “We’re honoured to be able to support this vital project and be part of a team providing lifesaving equipment to frontline NHS staff and patients.”

“Normally a project as complex as this would take three months to pull together, but we’ve done it in a matter of days. It’s thanks to a team of very dedicated people as well as having the existing expertise and infrastructure that can quickly adapt to a range of needs.”
