Global technology distributor Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT) has been named among the top 10 high-tech companies from the 2014 Gartner Supply Chain Top 25: High Tech.

Avnet is the only distributor to be recognised on the top 10 list of high-tech companies. Lynn Torrel, Senior Vice President global supply chain and strategic accounts at Avnet, said: “As a leading global distributor, we continue to ensure the optimization of the complex global supply chains of our customers and supplier partners.

“Our supply chain experts work closely with our customers and suppliers to assess their needs, develop strategic supply chain solutions, and ensure we deliver the right products and services at the right time. Our unique model helps us provide professional and managed services to help technology companies gain more transparency, reliability and responsiveness from their supply network.”

This is the first year Avnet has been recognized in Gartner’s supply chain ranking of high-tech companies. In addition to being recognised in Gartner’s supply chain ranking, Avnet also manages large elements of the technology supply chains of several of the companies on the list. Avnet delivers globally available, rapidly scalable, customized supply chain solutions to the direct market for electronic components and equipment.

Stan Aronow, Research Vice President for Gartner said: “Supply chain has a large part to play in enabling the business to compete for the future, concurrent with protecting existing business.

“The most advanced companies on our ranking are not afraid to rethink the design of their global supply networks, if that is required, for success. In some cases, this has led to increased vertical integration where leaders are getting into their customers’ and their suppliers’ businesses in an attempt to dominate value chains, redrawing the lines of competition in the process.”
