Sandvik has unveiled its Advancing to 2030 strategy, embedding sustainability across its global supply chains to boost growth and efficiency

Sandvik sets out a clear direction for its global operations with the launch of its updated Group strategy, Advancing to 2030.

The framework runs from 2026 to 2030 and continues the company’s focus on growth, profitability, innovation, digitalisation and people while making sustainability a central part of its supply chain and operations.

The strategy builds on the current plan that concludes in 2025, with most targets already met.

At its heart is a commitment to reshape the way materials, processes and technology flow through Sandvik’s network of suppliers, manufacturing sites and customers, aligning financial goals with environmental impact.

Aligning growth with sustainable supply chains

Sandvik maintains its ambition of 7% growth to 2030, achieved through a balance of organic expansion and acquisitions. This will directly influence the supply chain as the company scales its reach across markets.

Profitability continues to be measured against an EBITA margin of 20–22%, supported by higher productivity, capital efficiency and lower emissions.

Explaining the rationale, Stefan Widing, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sandvik, says: “The revised strategy is called Advancing to 2030 because it emphasises that we need to continue to move in the good direction that we have set and make progress in that direction.

“Driving growth and delivering profitability and efficiency are related to our financial targets. Organic growth is always the highest priority.

"This is achieved mainly through leveraging our premium products and innovation, which will continue to be at the core of Sandvik. We have also now built a strong foundation in our digital offering and have a new objective to accelerate this progress.”

For supply chain leaders, the integration of digital tools means greater visibility and coordination across production, logistics and customer delivery.

The commitment to emissions reduction also places responsibility on suppliers to align with Sandvik’s sustainability targets.

Embedding sustainability and digitalisation

Unlike its earlier approach where sustainability stood as a separate target, Sandvik now integrates it across all five objectives.

This includes emissions reduction targets, sustainable product design and the way resources are sourced and moved throughout the network. Progress is tracked through a company-wide target-setting framework.

Sandvik sets a 2030 digital revenue target of 13 BSEK ($1.38bn), a figure tied to its expansion of smart products and data-driven services.

Investment in research and development remains at about 4% of revenues, with innovation directed towards solutions that cut waste and lower carbon output across the value chain.

By combining data with sustainable product design, Sandvik aims to lower costs while meeting customer demands for greener equipment and services.

The company also introduces new innovation sales ratio targets and measures sustainability-driven product development to track the direct contribution of new solutions to both revenue and environmental goals.

Empowering people and securing performance

Sandvik replaces its ‘employer of choice’ goal with a more performance-focused approach that reflects the need for resilient supply chain teams. Stefan adds: “We continue to want to be the employer of choice. But we also want to make sure that employees are empowered to perform at the highest level.”

Safety, wellbeing and engagement stay central, with the addition of psychological safety measured by a new index. This shift ensures that employees throughout the chain–from production staff to logistics planners–are supported to adapt to new technologies and sustainability requirements.

Alongside these operational priorities, Sandvik revises its purpose to “Advancing the world through Engineering” and introduces updated core values: Winning together, Curiosity, Responsibility and Customer Focus.

Reflecting on progress, Stefan says: “We should be very proud of what we have achieved because we have delivered on many of the targets we set out a few years ago.

"We have made good progress. And through our revised core values, our purpose and our updated strategy, Sandvik will continue to be recognised as one of the world's leading industrial technology companies.”

By aligning growth with sustainability, Sandvik positions its supply chain as a platform for efficiency and innovation.

Its 2030 strategy signals not just a plan for profitability but a model for how global industrial supply chains adapt to digital and environmental demands.
