UPS Healthcare has opened its largest regional healthcare-focused logistics facility in Singapore.

The launch strengthens its presence in the Asia-Pacific region and doubles its existing logistics footprint in the area.

Spanning more than 11,500 square metres (124,300 square feet), the Tuas site and is purpose-built to support the increasingly complex demands of the healthcare sector.

It is designed to handle sensitive healthcare shipments with precision and care, and boasts automation technology, cold chain infrastructure and temperature-controlled storage zones, including a dedicated -20°C walk-in freezer and precision coolers.

The facility complies with both Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, which govern the handling, transport and storage of medical products to ensure safety and quality.

Expanded capability for a growing healthcare sector

The opening of UPS Healthcare's newest logistics site serves as a direct response to growing healthcare demands across the Asia-Pacific region.

As the healthcare logistics market expands, driven by increasing demand for time- and temperature-sensitive medicines and devices, the facility positions Singapore as a key node in the global healthcare supply chain.

UPS Healthcare’s decision to place its largest regional facility in Singapore reflects the country’s reputation as a logistics and innovation hub. The site is equipped with advanced automation, including a built-in conveyor system, dry ice dispenser and vertical lean lift module, allowing for better operational efficiency and supporting the safe, accurate handling of critical medical products.

In addition to core warehousing, the facility also offers value-added services such as cold-chain packaging, labelling and regulatory compliance support. These services help healthcare manufacturers and providers manage their supply chains with minimal risk and maximum reliability.

Corey Cheung, Vice President of Business Development for Asia-Pacific at UPS Healthcare, says: "The opening of this facility underscores UPS Healthcare's commitment to providing reliable, innovative solutions tailored to the needs of healthcare providers and patients."

Cold chain and automation integrated

Cold chain logistics refers to the transport and storage of temperature-sensitive products under controlled conditions. For medicines, vaccines and medical devices, even slight temperature deviations can impact efficacy.

To safeguard these products, the Tuas facility integrates cold chain technologies with automation.

The walk-in freezer and temperature-controlled coolers are designed for continuous environmental monitoring. These systems protect the integrity of products throughout the distribution process. Meanwhile, automated handling through conveyor systems and lean lifts speeds up throughput without compromising accuracy.

Cold-chain packaging and labelling are also offered on site – crucial for pharmaceuticals that must comply with country-specific regulatory labelling requirements and enabling faster release to market for healthcare providers.

The introduction of automation reduces manual handling, which in turn lowers the chance of human error. UPS Healthcare has focused on combining high-tech tools with stringent regulatory adherence to ensure the facility offers the precision required by healthcare customers.

A wider global strategy

Far from a standalone investment, the Singapore facility forms part of UPS Healthcare’s broader expansion. The company currently operates more than 19.2 million square feet of healthcare distribution space worldwide, all built to cGMP and GDP standards.

UPS Premier, the company’s proprietary service for high-priority, time- and temperature-sensitive shipments, complements the capabilities of the new Tuas site. UPS Premier uses track and trace technology, enhanced visibility and a global quality system to provide assurance in the handling of critical treatments and devices.

The Tuas opening follows other regional developments, aiming to give customers access to integrated, transparent logistics solutions. These services are tailored for the pharmaceutical, medical device and diagnostic sectors, all of which require specialised supply chain handling.

By combining automation, cold chain and regional access through Singapore, UPS Healthcare supports its clients' ability to serve patients reliably and efficiently throughout the region.
