Inside Gartner's Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25

The way in which supply chains run has shifted throughout the last few years, with the most efficient chains seamlessly implementing emerging technology across their operations.
The leading systems which have remained resilient in the face of turbulence are the ones who have demonstrated agility and strength throughout their supply chains.
AdventHealth retains the top spot, while NewYork-Presbyterian and Mass General Brigham make their Gartner ranking debuts.
The Gartner ranking
The Gartner Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25 relies on quantitative measures and opinion components, before being combined into a total composite score. It examines company connections between financial health, performance and supply chain excellence.
The Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25 Masters category has now been running for eight years, celebrating long-term supply chain success. This goes to supply chains which have achieved a top-five score at least seven times in the past ten years. Mayo Clinic and Intermountain Health have achieved this classification for the eighth consecutive year. Cleveland Clinic has gained this status for the second time.
The 2025 list marks the 17th annual Healthcare ranking, recognising supply chain excellence within US health systems. For the second consecutive year, AdventHealth has taken the number one spot in the list, with a composite score of 7.39. The top five also includes Stanford Medicine, Bon Secours Mercy Health, Rush University System for Health and Corewell Health.
These systems are demonstrating high quality in patient care, risk management and sustainability practices. Moreover, they are gaining high marks from peer opinion and Gartner opinion.
“Healthcare supply chains are under pressure to deliver cost savings, improve resiliency and implement AI to transform their operations,” says Salil Joshi, Senior Director Analyst in Gartner’s Supply Chain practice.
“This year’s leaders demonstrated the power of leveraging technology, including AI-driven insights, to extend their span of control, strengthen clinical partnerships and build smarter, more agile supply chains.”
The top 10 is rounded out by Indiana University Health, BJC Health System, Sutter Health, Northwestern Medicine and Advocate Health. Two health systems have made their Top 25 debut this year - NewYork-Presbyterian ranks at number 23, with Mass General Brigham taking number 25.
Trends for 2025
A range of factors has contributed to the shifting landscape of healthcare supply chains throughout 2025, but Gartner's Top 25 have been able to show resilience amid disruption. Through this, Gartner has noted three key themes which these leaders have been implementing in order to remain strong.
Digitalisation
AI has become a key part of a supply chain over the last year, with businesses using it to streamline complex processes, reduce repetitive labour and create actionable insights using unlimited data.
AI-powered analytics are being used for cost and outcome insights, whereas GenAI tools are used for contract review and predictive planning. Resilience is improving and workflows are becoming more streamlined due to robotic process automation and ERP modernisation.
Cost Management
Healthcare leaders have been responding to volatility by building and implementing financial impact models - considering potential tariff changes -, diversifying suppliers and investing in real-time monitoring tools. This has allowed them to gain full visibility into their supplier financial standing in order to mitigate risk and anticipate disruption.
Doing so has also helped them risk cost exposure, as they have been able to avoid high expenses through vulnerable suppliers.
Expanding collaboration
Through the deepened alignment of supply strategies and clinical priorities, partnerships have strengthened to ensure patient care remains strong. This collaborative effort has allowed for procedure card optimisation, reduced supplier variance and reduced waste.
These key focuses have appeared repeatedly throughout these leading healthcare supply chains, showing the shifting priorities for building resilience and efficiency.
