DP World is helping businesses optimise supply chain performance through a suite of sustainable logistics solutions and strategic partnerships

In a world being increasingly shaped by a demand for sustainable solutions and reliable logistics, DP World has launched EcoRoute.

The freight and logistics sector is a vital one, ensuring the world's goods keep moving in a reliable and efficient manner. However, it accounts for approximately 10% of global energy-related CO₂ emissions.

DP World is aiming to tackle this number without sacrificing supply chain performance with its latest suite of solutions.

Minimising impact

Multinational logistics company, DP World, operates in 83 countries across six continents in order to contribute towards a seamless supply chain network. It is rapidly transforming its operations, investing in innovations and creating new solutions to push the sector towards more resilient and sustainable means of trade. Through this, the company is aiming to mitigate supply chain risk and help develop more resilient global operations.

DP World has launched a suite of solutions called EcoRoute, working to help businesses reduce emissions alongside an optimised supply chain performance. Through lower-carbon logistics solutions, strong network design, strategic partnerships and emissions measurement, the logistics expert is looking to redefine the industry.

Global organisations are looking to tackle their supply chain emissions – with a focus on their logistics partners. Transportation contributes 60% of logistics-related carbon emissions, due to the use of fossil fuels across ships, trucks and aircraft. With the logistics sector contributing 10% of global CO₂ emissions, business leaders are working to transform their operations. Scope 3 emissions make up 75% of a company's overall carbon footprint, but poor visibility and increased complexity make it difficult to tackle.

However, ongoing consumer demand for sustainability within their shopping choices has companies working to minimise their impact.

Alongside this, stronger regulations around the world and increasing investor scrutiny have business leaders turning to their logistics partners to innovate. As a result, DP World has introduced EcoRoute to meet rising customer expectations for efficient and sustainable supply chain operations.

“EcoRoute is about turning ambition into action," explains Ayla Bajwa, DP World Group Senior Vice President of Sustainability.

"It gives our customers the tools, insights and partnerships needed to reduce emissions across complex supply chains, while also delivering broader environmental and social impact. By connecting sustainability with real operational change, we are helping businesses build supply chains that are fit for the future.”

EcoRoute's suite of solutions aims to make it easier for logistics companies to reduce their impact and for global organisations to tackle their Scope 3.

Optimised supply chain networks
The aim is to balance cost, speed and emissions in order to develop more resilient supply chains. DP World has helped a major retailer in Africa increase transported volumes by 45%, despite only increasing fleet size by 5%, by using a centralised Logistics Control Tower solution. Through this, there has been an 88% improvement in vehicle utilisation, as well as the further development of supply chain resilience and operational efficiency.

Lower carbon solutions
By using modal shift programmes, electric transport solutions and alternative fuels, as well as more eco-friendly warehouses and facilities, DP World is working to reduce emissions and logistics costs, while also improving reliability. Through a multimodal solution, DP World can have tighter control over transportation, with greater visibility for the client.

Carbon Insetting programmes
These help address Scope 3 emissions, with proven results in its Southampton and London Gateway. In 2025, it generated more than 9,400 tonnes of verified CO₂ insets across 257,000 TEU of cargo flows.

Emissions measurement and visibility
DP World's Carbon Emissions Calculator offers end-to-end visibility of emissions across transport models, which helps customers gain insights into where they can reduce their own emissions.

“At DP World, we believe a well-connected supply chain is a more sustainable one," says Beat Simon, DP World Group Chief Operating Officer, Logistics.

"EcoRoute helps customers reduce emissions while improving efficiency and resilience by combining connectivity, data and operational expertise across our global network.”

EcoRoute also allows for greater collaboration with DP World's customers and strategic partners. By using integrated and tailored solutions, businesses can improve supply chain performance without the need to restructure logistics networks or manage multiple providers. These solutions reduce complexity and emissions at the same time, creating positive outcomes for all parties and the environment.
