Bidfood and Aerodyne's Mission to Cut Fleet Emissions

Bidfood UK has joined forces with Aerodyne Global as it looks to reduce Scopes 1 and 2 emissions by 55% between now and the year 2032.
More than 300 of Bidfood's vehicles will be equipped with Aerodyne's AEROCOOL technology, enhancing efficiency across its fleet.
The partnership looks set to serves as a significant step towards Bidfood achieving its net-zero-by-2045 objective.
Industry leadership
Aerodyne Global was founded by engineer Ambrose Kingston in 1979 in an attempt to solve a number of issues relating to fuel efficiency in logistics.
The firm has gone on to become a global leader in its field, producing fuel-saving truck aerodynamic devices and offering a complete service from design to testing.
Now, Aerodyne is partnering with Bidfood to help the food and beverage distribution specialist meet its sustainability goals.
With its origins dating back to 1929 as part of Booker Foodservice, Bidfood now supplies more than 40,000 customers across hospitals, hotels, restaurants and schools, with a national network of 26 depots.
The business consistently endeavours to make a more positive impact on people on the planet, ensuring it acts on emissions, plastics and waste.
Tech-driven sustainability
Bidfood is aiming to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 55% by 2032, with a target of achieving net zero by 2045.
A total of 315 vehicles, including 167 Scania trucks and 148 DAF XF units, will be fitted with AEROCOOL technology provided by Aerodyne.
Extensive trials on urban multi-drop and trunking routes have shown the AEROCOOL top deflector and sidewings offer an 8.24% fuel-saving benefit.
Julie Owst, Head of Sustainability at Bidfood, says: “Calculations prove that, on average, the airkits will save 2.7 COβ Tonnes per year. That amounts to 27 COβ tonnes over the life of the vehicle.
"This is an excellent step forward in reducing vehicle emissions and supports our wider fleet decarbonisation goals.”
The kits have been adopted across Bidfood's entire fleet, resulting in fuel savings, lower emissions and improved operational efficiency β without driver intervention.
AeroCool kits are 'fridge engineer friendly' (FEF), meaning they are designed to improve accessibility and safety for refrigerated vehicle maintenance.
They often incorporate catwalks and lifting gas struts to make life easier and safer for the fridge engineer.
Supply chain strategy
Bidfood's partnership with Aerodyne represents a win from both a supply chain and sustainability perspective.
The former now stands to achieve far greater efficiency across its fleet, with drivers able to focus on getting products delivered at a faster rate, with fewer delays related to fuel and cooling.
With the implementation of AeroCool, Bidfood is advancing its sustainability goals while driving real-world efficiency improvements.
