Enhancing efficiency in rail logistics

The Goole site plays a crucial role in Siemens Mobility’s broader logistics strategy, ensuring rail fleets receive components quickly and efficiently. Together, the Kettering and Goole facilities create a robust distribution network that improves the reliability of supply chain operations.

Approximately 30 specialists at the new facility manage materials planning, inventory control and supply chain coordination, ensuring smooth logistics operations.

The site also offers apprenticeships and internships, providing future talent with opportunities to develop skills in distribution and logistics.

Sambit Banerjee, Joint CEO at Siemens Mobility, highlights the importance of the new centre: “I am so proud that our Goole Rail Village is continuing to expand, with a new Rail Components Distribution Centre that will play an important part in Siemens Mobility’s mission to transform rail travel and transport in the UK.

“This new centre, alongside its sister facility in Kettering, is the latest example of our commitment to the UK and will enable us to further enhance the delivery of materials to our fleets.”

Supporting sustainability in rail distribution

A key objective of Siemens Mobility’s logistics expansion is sustainability.

By operating logistics hubs in both Northern and Southern England, the company reduces transport distances, cutting road miles and lowering emissions. This approach aligns with broader sustainability goals, making the rail supply chain more environmentally friendly.

Rt Hon Sir David Davis MP emphasises the significance of this investment: “It was a pleasure to open Siemens Mobility’s new Rail Components Distribution Centre in Goole, alongside Councillor Anne Handley.

“This state-of-the-art facility located within my constituency represents yet another investment by Siemens Mobility in Goole and I look forward to more milestones to come as the Rail Village continues to grow.”
