Slovenia’s national postal operator joins forces with FarEye to refine its parcel logistics and raise service standards with AI-powered last-mile delivery

Pošta Slovenije is partnering with last-mile logistics platform FarEye in a move that strengthens its delivery operations while responding to growing e-commerce demand and evolving consumer behaviour.

The collaboration focuses on improving accuracy, reducing operational issues and enhancing customer satisfaction, all while aligning with European climate goals.

The alliance gives Pošta Slovenije access to FarEye’s last-mile technology—a suite of tools developed to improve the final stretch of the delivery process.

In logistics, the last mile refers to the final journey of a parcel from a delivery hub to its recipient. It’s a part of the process often seen as the most complex and costly.

FarEye’s technology aims to reduce that complexity by improving address accuracy, optimising order handling across different sales channels and streamlining the entire pickup and drop-off experience. These improvements are expected to boost overall delivery reliability and allow for fewer mistakes in the field.

Crucially, the platform enhances mobile app functionality, enabling better communication with drivers and more transparent updates for customers waiting on deliveries. It also integrates new delivery statuses into Pošta Slovenije’s systems, making tracking more precise and responsive.

"This collaboration with FarEye represents a significant step forward in our efforts to further modernise and optimise our logistics and delivery processes,” says Slavko Ovčina, CIO and IT Director at Pošta Slovenije.

“We are excited to leverage FarEye’s AI-powered last-mile technology to address our operational challenges and improve our service delivery.”

The integration spans various shipment types, ranging from regular letter items and parcels to express and logistics shipments. It also covers operations like emptying post boxes and document signing, making the solution broadly applicable across the network.

Supporting long-term growth and sustainability

Pošta Slovenije operates within a group structure, known as the Pošta Slovenije Group, which includes 19 companies across nine markets. As of the end of 2024, the group employed 7,678 staff, with more than 5,500 based directly at Pošta Slovenije.

The company sees logistics as a growing part of its operations, particularly as e-commerce continues to expand and users shift toward faster and more reliable parcel services.

This shift brings logistical challenges, but also opportunities for transformation.

Kushal Nahata, Co-Founder and CEO at FarEye, frames it this way: "In Europe, the logistics industry faces significant inefficiencies, costing companies billions of dollars annually and impacting operations across the continent.

"With advanced route optimisation, postal companies can save up to 20% in costs, improve efficiency and contribute to sustainability goals by reducing carbon emissions."

This fits directly into wider European environmental targets. The European Union aims for a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050.

By making deliveries more efficient and reducing fuel use, Pošta Slovenije contributes to this broader climate-neutral ambition.

Investing in tech without losing traditional roots

Despite its digital ambitions, Pošta Slovenije hasn’t turned its back on traditional postal services.

Instead, the company is focusing on integrating innovation with its legacy infrastructure. Its wide delivery network remains central to its strategy, including a parcel network with 1,300 pickup and drop-off points—ranging from post offices and automated lockers to petrol stations and smart shipping units. It’s the largest such network in the country.

The company’s focus remains on delivering classic services while embracing automation and data-driven systems. These changes are aimed at improving the experience for both consumers and business users, making the network more responsive, flexible and scalable.

By continuously updating its approach, Pošta Slovenije keeps pace with new expectations and strengthens its role in Southeast Europe, where the group continues to grow its reputation across logistics markets.
