How Crown Paints is Connecting Customers with XPO Logistics
XPO Logistics, a leader in end-to-end logistics solutions across Europe, is expanding its UK operations with a new partnership.
The company has been selected to run warehouse operations for Crown Paints, part of the global coatings company Hempel A/S.
The deal marks a significant collaboration between XPO and one of the largest decorative paint brands in the Hempel Group.
The agreement will see XPO Logistics managing warehousing at Crown Paints’ production sites in Darwen, Lancashire—where the company’s headquarters is based—and Hull, Yorkshire. These two sites are critical to Crown Paints’ UK operations, ensuring its products reach customers efficiently.
XPO's role includes handling finished goods, order picking, preparation, packing and on-site shunting. The partnership will also incorporate value-added services designed to enhance efficiency and maintain industry-leading safety standards.
The logistics provider is well-equipped to support Crown Paints’ ambitions, leveraging its expertise and proprietary technology to optimise warehouse operations.

XPO Logistics already works with Hempel, the parent company of Crown Paints, in France and Spain.
Since 2018, XPO has been handling product distribution from Hempel sites, either delivering to shops or transferring stock between outlets. The partnership spans several regions, ensuring efficient supply chain management for Hempel’s operations.
This experience gives XPO a strong foundation to integrate seamlessly into Crown Paints’ supply chain.
The company’s ability to provide scalable and sustainable logistics solutions makes it a strategic partner for businesses looking to optimise their operations.
Sustainability is a key focus for Crown Paints and this new collaboration aligns with its long-term environmental goals. The company is working towards becoming carbon neutral across its entire network, including factories, offices and Crown Decorating Centres, by 2026.

Supporting Crown Paints' e-commerce strategy
Beyond warehouse operations, XPO Logistics will play a crucial role in Crown Paints’ e-commerce expansion.
The company is set to launch its e-commerce strategy in the first quarter of 2025 and XPO will be fully integrated into the business to support this initiative.
This collaboration is expected to streamline Crown Paints’ online sales operations, ensuring an efficient supply chain that can meet growing customer demand.
