DB Schenker and Ford are recognised as true giants of logistics and automotive respectively.

Now, these industry leaders have joined forces to launch a state-of-the-art parts distribution centre (PDC) in Dubai South, an urban development focused on aviation, logistics and real estate.

The facility is designed to redefine automotive supply chain efficiency and scalability in the region. Spanning 42,000 square metres, it introduces cutting-edge operational and technological capabilities, aiming to reshape the logistics landscape across the Middle East and beyond.

A recent launch event featured prominent attendees, including HE Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South; Ako Djaf, VP of Contract Logistics and Supply Chain Management (SCM) for DB Schenker in the Middle East and Africa; Kay Hart, President of International Markets Group at Ford Motor Company; and Ravi Ravichandran, President of Ford Middle East.

Advanced technology drives operational efficiency

Relying on DB Schenker's immense expertise, the new PDC integrates advanced material handling equipment (MHE) and custom-designed racking systems to maximise efficiency.

Key innovations include very narrow aisle (VNA) systems, multi-tier mezzanines (MTM), deep selective racking (DSR) and cantilever racking (CR), which collectively optimise storage and picking operations.

The facility is equipped with 20 container docks, evenly split between inbound and outbound operations, enabling simultaneous processes to reduce delivery times.

Supporting these technologies, DB Schenker has implemented SAP S/4HANA warehouse management software, which enhances precision through paperless operations and barcode scanning.

A dedicated vehicle off road (VOR) processing team prioritises critical parts, ensuring no delays in the supply of essential components.

Ravi Ravichandran, President of Ford Middle East, highlights the facility's transformative potential: “The new PDC enables us to create a more streamlined and efficient process that enhances parts availability, optimises inventory management and elevates customer service.

"By unlocking these operational efficiencies, we are delivering on our commitment to improve service and delivery times in the region. We're thrilled to see this latest Ford project in Dubai come to fruition."

Strategic location and sustainability focus

Located in Dubai South’s Logistics District, the facility consolidates Ford’s regional storage and distribution operations into a centralised hub.

Serving key markets across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Sub-Saharan Africa, the PDC boosts capacity by 20% compared to its predecessor. This increase not only improves inventory management but also bolsters operational capabilities to meet growing demand in the region.

What's more, the centre is designed with sustainability in mind. A 400kW solar panel system, scheduled for installation by the end of 2025, will cut energy consumption by 35% and reduce carbon emissions by 290 tonnes annually.

Additionally, responsible waste management practices, including recycling and environmentally friendly disposal, reinforce the facility's commitment to eco-conscious operations.

Mohsen Ahmad, CEO of the Logistics District at Dubai South

“We're pleased to welcome Ford to Dubai South with the launch of its new facility," adds Mohsen Ahmad, CEO of the Logistics District at Dubai South.

"With the expertise and capabilities of DB Schenker, we are confident that this collaboration will bolster Ford’s expansion endeavours while delivering premium services to its customers across the region.

"At Dubai South, our mission is to support the government’s economic diversification plans through the comprehensive services and solutions we offer to both local and international companies, underpinned by our state-of-the-art infrastructure."

Pioneering the future of logistics

DB Schenker’s new facility sets a benchmark for logistics innovation, combining technological advancements with sustainable practices to drive efficiencies and support global brands like Ford in delivering superior services.

The company’s role in implementing modern supply chain solutions highlights its leadership in the logistics sector.

Dubai South’s Logistics District further enhances the facility’s capabilities, offering seamless access to Jebel Ali Port via a bonded logistics corridor, as well as cargo terminals at Al Maktoum International Airport. It also features EZDubai, a dedicated e-commerce zone and a contract logistics zone, cementing its position as a premier logistics hub.

Ako Djaf, VP Contract Logistics SCM & Distribution for the Middle East and Africa at DB Schenker

Ako Djaf, VP of Contract Logistics and SCM for DB Schenker in the Middle East and Africa, encapsulates the facility’s significance: “At DB Schenker, we take immense pride in supporting Ford’s ambitious vision for operational excellence in the Middle East. The new PDC is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation, designed to streamline supply chain processes, enhance customer satisfaction and contribute to sustainability goals.

"By leveraging our global expertise and advanced logistics solutions, we are excited to play a pivotal role in Ford’s journey to deliver unparalleled service to its customers across the region.”
