Inside EY's AI-Driven ERP Overhaul With SAP

For professional services firms, legacy on-premises systems have become a serious obstacle.

Weighed down by decades of customisation, these systems struggle to keep pace with the growing need for AI integration, real-time analytics and agile decision-making.

EY is addressing this challenge head-on with a major overhaul of its enterprise resource planning (ERP) infrastructure. The firm is migrating to SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, hosted on Microsoft Azure, as part of an ambitious plan to create what it calls “the first autonomous ERP business system.”

North Sea Collision: Cargo Spill Sparks Supply Chain Risks

A collision between a tanker carrying jet fuel for the US military and a container ship in the North Sea ignited fires and forced the evacuation of both crews.

The Stena Immaculate, loaded with 18,000 tonnes of aviation fuel, was struck while anchored, rupturing its cargo tank and spilling fuel into the sea. The container ship Solong, which was carrying hazardous chemicals, also sustained heavy damage, raising concerns over environmental contamination.

The collision has sparked widespread environmental concerns and potential disruptions to military logistics.

Corning: Building a Sustainable US Solar Supply Chain

In a major boost to US solar manufacturing, Corning, Suniva and Heliene are collaborating to develop solar modules sourced entirely from within the country.

The move strengthens the supply chain by ensuring that key components – polysilicon, wafers and solar cells – are made in the US, helping solar developers access high-quality, domestically manufactured materials.

Suniva, the longest-standing US producer of high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon solar cells, is working with Heliene, a major American solar PV module manufacturer, to bring this vision to life. Corning, a global materials science leader, is supplying the wafers and high-purity polysilicon through its majority ownership of Hemlock Semiconductor (HSC).

Revealed: The UK's Latest Energy Supply Chain Contracts

Bidding to help craft a more secure, resilient and decarbonised energy system, the National Grid has awarded several contracts under its £59bn (US$76.4bn) High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) supply chain framework.

The framework was launched in 2023 and aims to secure vital equipment for both current and future energy infrastructure projects and craft long-term supplier relationships.

On the Framework Agreement, six HDVC cable suppliers have been granted positions: LS Cable & System, Hellenic & Jan De Nul Consortium, NKT Cables, Sumitomo Electric, Prysmian Group and Taihan Cable & Solution. These positions total around £21.3bn.

On the HVDC Converter Framework, four suppliers have been given places: Hitachi Energy, GE Vernova, Siemens Energy and Mitsubishi Electric. These contracts total £24.6bn.
