Chief Supply Chain Officers (CSCOs) oversee purchasing and ensure the smooth running of global operations.

Whether they’re forming relationships with suppliers or boosting productivity, these CSCOs are doing their bit to ensure their organisations' success. 

Supply chain disruptions have been increasingly prevalent over the last 12 months and these CSCOs have been tasked with making sure their companies maintain effective operations.

Here, we take a look at the CSCOs in the Automotive industry who are pioneering new approaches and driving success across supply chain operations.

10. Thierry Charvet - Chief Industry, Quality and Supply Chain Officer

Thierry has worked within the Renault Group for more than 30 years, becoming the Director of Industry and Quality in 2023. Since then, his role has come to encompass the supply chain too. 

He began his career at Renault Group in 1993 as an engineer, before making his way up through the ranks of management. Throughout this time, he has led global teams around the world.

Thierry has a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the Polytechnic School.

9. Tae Hun Lee - EVP Global Operations

Tae Hun Lee was promoted to EVP of Global Operations at Kia, part of the Hyundai Motor Group, in 2024 after demonstrating great leadership during his time as Team Lead at Hyundai Commercial. 

Prior to his work at Hyundai, he worked at Hanwha Life Insurance and QCells, with experience working around the world and developing business plans for long term growth.

Tae holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Hongik University. 

8. Ayumu Matsuo - Chief Officer for Supply Chain & Purchasing Operations

Ayumu joined Honda Motor Co., Ltd in 1991. Over the years, he has gained a series of promotions. In 2024, he became the Chief Officer for Supply Chain & Purchasing Operations, which he holds alongside his recently appointed title of Managing Executive Officer.

Honda began its motorcycle exports in the 1950s and is now one of the biggest global vehicle manufacturers. Ayumu oversees the supply chain and purchasing operations of this manufacturing giant.

7. Jörg Burzer - CSCO

Dr. Jörg Burzer joined the company - previously Daimler AG - in 1999 as Head of Project Pre-Development PC. Throughout his time in the company, Jörg has worked across Germany, China and the USA, making his way up through managerial roles. 

Jörg has been a member of the Board of Management since 2021, where he is in charge of the Production, Quality and Supply Chain Management Division. In this role, he oversees the global production network and worldwide logistics.

6. Michael Nikolaides - SVP Production Network, Supply Chain Management

Michael joined BMW AG in 2004, after studying at Technische Universität München, Harvard University and gaining a PhD at Technische Universität München. Since then, he has held various head roles across production divisions. He has been SVP Production Network, Supply Chain Management since 2022.

BMW Group has four brands - BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad - and provides financial services as well as premium automobiles and motorcycles. The production network has more than 30 sites worldwide, which Michael leads to great success.

5. Francesca Gamboni - Chief Industrial Operations Officer

Francesca joined Volvo Cars in 2023 as Chief Supply Chain Officer. In 2024, she became the Chief Industrial Operations Officer, which has given her the responsibility of overseeing global manufacturing, supply chain and procurement.

Francesca has 30 years of management responsibility across supply chain and manufacturing, with industry experience spanning across automotive, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, cosmetics and more.  

She has led teams around the world, including France, Italy and Sweden, which has given her the experience to lead Volvo’s global team. 

4. Scott Thiele - Chief Supply Chain Officer

Scott became the CSCO of Stellantis in 2025, having worked at the company since 2021, when Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and PSA Group merged. Throughout his time at the company, Scott has overseen supply chain operations, R&D partnerships and achieved significant cost savings for the team.

Prior to this job, Scott had worked at FCA for 13 years, gaining experience as Chief Purchasing Officer and VP of North America Purchasing & Supply Chain. 

He has more than two decades of experience in global supply chain management, with a history of enhancing operational efficiency and demand planning.

3. Liz Door - CSCO

Liz has been the CSCO of Ford Motor Company since 2023, where she has led the team to deliver its Ford+ Plan. She is responsible for an annual purchase value of more than US$90bn with approximately 20,000 suppliers. 

Liz has more than 25 years of experience in consumer goods and automotive industry. During this time, she has led large scale transformation initiatives and utilised technology to optimise organisations. She has led projects dealing with international trade, mergers and supplier bankruptcies.

2. Chris Nielsen - EVP Supply Chain

Chris Nielsen, EVP Supply Chain at Toyota North America

Chris has worked for Toyota North America for almost 40 years, beginning his career as Purchasing Buyer. He has worked hard during his time at the company, rising to EVP, Chief Supply Chain & Chief Quality Officer in 2017.

He also has a multibillion dollar P&L and operational budget, overseeing 5,000 team members and Toyota’s US$50bn+ supply chain. 

Chris is also the Audit Committee Chair of the Toyota Motor North America, Board of Directors.

Within his team, he aims to build a culture of operational excellence and collaboration, with a hope it’ll lead to innovation and efficiency. 

He has led global teams through significant events, and has led global operations outside of North America and China, including South America, the Middle East and Europe.
