As part of our in-depth look at C3.ai, Supply Chain Digital examines C3’s collaboration with 3M.

In 2018, C3.ai announced a multi-year agreement with 3M to provide the C3.ai AI and IoT software platform to support 3M’s digital transformation. 3M uses the C3 platform to develop and deploy AI-based applications, which starts with predictive healthcare and supply chain analytics and expanding additional lines of businesses worldwide. The aim was to enable 3M to better serve customers with even more agility and efficiency. C3.ai was selected as 3M’s Digital Connected Products partner following an extensive process that reviewed over 350 platforms and validated the maturity, scalability and extensibility of C3.ai’s platform as a service.

Who is 3M?

3M provides a comprehensive range of products for the automotive accident repair market. 3M aims to understand how the industry evolves, ensuring the products developed are suitable for the job. Due to an increase in vehicle lightweighting materials and collision avoidance sensors, 3M is creating products to address the changes in the repair process across the industry. 3M aims to understand your needs with the aim of increasing value into operations and optimising profitability.

“We’ve been engaged with the C3 team in several different areas,” said Henry Chang, Vice President of 3M Connect. “Firstly, we’re working out new processes internally. How do we think through from a manufacturing and supply chain standpoint? How do we use intelligence to optimise inventory? The biggest challenge around data is the ingestion of data and the robustness of the platform is extremely helpful from that perspective.”

“On top of that, it’s important to make user-friendly applications to enable our data scientists to draw insights and conclusions to drive outcomes. There is no single, one path and it requires lots of collaboration. The professionalism of the teams, the experience set, the solutions that we’re trying to drive insights to has been tremendous. We find ways to collaboratively work around impasses to get to the right answers and we do that in a very quick time frame. It has been one of the biggest benefits of working with this agile and flexible organisation.”
