C3.ai: accelerating digital transformation

The Suite propels organisations to deliver AI-enabled applications quicker than alternative methods while reducing the technical debt from maintaining and upgrading these applications. Its solutions cater to a range of different industries such as manufacturing, oil and gas, utilities, banking, aerospace and defence, healthcare, retail, telecoms, smart cities and transportation. The C3 AI Suite has a range of different AI solutions. These include: C3 Predictive Maintenance, C3 Energy Management, C3 Sensor Health, C3 CRM, C3 Inventory Optimisation, C3 Anti-Money Laundering and C3 Fraud Detection.
C3 Inventory Optimisation applies advanced AI/machine learning and optimisation techniques to enable manufacturers to reduce inventory levels, while maintaining confidence that they will have stock when and where they need it. Manufacturers allow customers to configure hundreds of individual options, leading to products that could have thousands of outcomes. Its features include: real-time recommendations, optimisation by confidence level, individual parts performance view, “what-if” scenario planning, scalability to millions of parts, real-time monitoring, summary view for operators, benchmark parts and optimisation with real-time data.
In January 2020, C3.ai received a potential five-year US$95mn contract from the Department of Defense’s innovation arm in order to provide AI-based technology for aircraft maintenance use. At the time, C3 said it agreed to a production other transaction agreement with the Defense Innovation Unit to use the company’s “C3 Readiness for Aircraft” platform. It was previously revealed that the army had hired C3.ai to apply “predictive maintenance” to the service’s Apache and Black Hawk helicopters. It was thought that there would be approximately 200 Apache and 200 Black Hawk helicopters respectively, with the deal expected to last five years and costing US$95mn in total.
Speaking with Inside Defense, Ed Abbo, President and Chief Technology Officer, announced he was in discussions with DOD officials in order to aid the transition of those Air Force platforms to task orders under the production agreement, as well as the Army orders that have already been placed. “You can use the same C3 readiness solution and actually apply it to aviation platforms, and then take it beyond that to ground vehicles and vessels and other equipment that requires maintenance,” Abbo said. “You can basically streamline operations and maintenance across the Department of Defense.”
