XPO Logistics Europe has secured the EcoVadis Gold Medal for its exceptional Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, ranking in the top 3%

XPO Europe has joined the elite top 3% of companies globally and the top 1% of road transport companies in Europe, according to EcoVadis.

This achievement comes after four years of holding the Silver Medal. The leap to Gold was driven by XPO's commitment to innovative, sustainable practices, including its LESS® (Low Emissions Sustainable Solutions) programme.

The initiative offers customers greener transport options, such as biofuels and multimodal solutions that help reduce carbon emissions.

XPO Logistics is a leading less-than-truckload (LTL) transport company, moving more than eight million tons of freight annually through its customer-focused network of 615 locations and 38,000 employees across North America and Europe.

From silver to gold: A journey in sustainability

XPO Europe has also enhanced its CSR strategy by implementing more rigorous risk management, launching a comprehensive Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) scorecard and aligning with the United Nations Global Compact Project.

Advanced technology plays a key role in XPO's sustainability journey. By optimising delivery routes and reducing empty kilometres, the company has not only minimised its environmental impact but also increased service efficiency.

These efforts are part of XPO's broader goal of achieving carbon neutrality in Europe by 2050.

The EcoVadis Gold Medal is a testament to XPO's commitment to sustainability, touching all four pillars of the EcoVadis assessment: Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.

“Achieving the EcoVadis Gold Medal is a testament to XPO´s relentless drive to improve our operational practices and sustainability initiatives," comments Luis Gómez, President of XPO Logistics Europe.

"This recognition reflects our commitment to leading the way in sustainable logistics, not just meeting but exceeding the evolving expectations of our valued customers, partners and stakeholders.”

XPO's end-to-end services include full-load, part-load, managed transport, last-mile delivery and contract logistics, all enhanced through advanced technology.

The company is not only focusing on its current sustainability achievements but also aiming to meet future challenges. By doing so, it maintains its vision of a greener, more efficient logistics network that provides exceptional value to customers and stakeholders.

Understanding EcoVadis ratings

EcoVadis scores companies on a scale of 0 to 100, reflecting the quality of their sustainability management systems at the time of assessment.

Companies that meet the assessment's criteria can earn EcoVadis Medals—Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum—depending on their performance.

The percentile ranking, which compares a company’s performance against all other rated companies, is updated annually. XPO's Gold Medal signifies its placement in the top 5%, with the company landing in the 97th percentile.

As of 1 July 2024, the cut-off scores for each medal level are as follows:

  • Platinum: 81 (Top 1%)
  • Gold: 73 (Top 5%)
  • Silver: 66 (Top 15%)
  • Bronze: 58 (Top 35%)

These scores are periodically reviewed to ensure they reflect the evolving standards of corporate sustainability.

Other medal recipients

Companies around the globe strive for EcoVadis recognition. The Platinum Medal, representing the top 1%, has been awarded to firms like Wilo Group, SONGWON Industrial Co. and Atos.

For instance, Atos has maintained its Platinum status for four consecutive years as of 2023. Liveo Research’s USA site in New Castle, Delaware, also earned Platinum, placing it among the top 1% of evaluated companies.

Gold Medal recipients, like XPO, also include UK-based Whistl Group, a logistics company specialising in e-fulfilment, mail and parcels.

MAN Truck & Bus was also recognised for its sustainability commitments, scoring 73 points, which places it in the top 5% of all assessed companies. Venator Materials PLC, a global chemical manufacturer, moved from Silver to Gold, joining the top 4% globally.

XPO's Gold Medal highlights its leading dedication to sustainability and continuous improvement in the logistics sector.
