P&SC Awards: SPLC Wins Social Enterprise Award
"[It's] Absolutely amazing [to win this award]. Amazing. There are many people involved in sustainable procurement integrating sustainability into purchasing. In all of our member organisations, and I'm so honoured to be representing them here today, they've dedicated their careers towards the sustainable procurement movement. And it's all about forming collective action towards more sustainable products and services and more sustainable suppliers," said Kris Spriano, Vice President of Programs and Development at the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council.
The Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC) has emerged as a pivotal force in driving positive social and environmental impact through procurement practices. Over the past decade, this global community has fostered collaboration among purchasers, suppliers, advocates, and experts to develop effective strategies that benefit organisations, supply chains, and communities.
At the heart of SPLC's recent innovations is the SPLC Navigator, a comprehensive digital platform launched earlier this year. This tool offers sustainable procurement measurement, benchmarking, and performance tracking capabilities, alongside targeted actions and resources. Notably, the platform is designed to cater to organisations of all sectors, sizes, and procurement models, from novices to industry leaders.
SPLC's commitment to fostering sustainable procurement extends beyond technology. The organisation provides strategic program development coaching, facilitating a shift from contract-by-contract approaches to more holistic, portfolio-wide strategies. Their Peer Learning Circles enable sector-based collaboration, while the Learning Hub offers self-paced courses on various sustainable procurement topics.
The council's ethical leadership is underpinned by a robust Code of Conduct, which members must adhere to. This includes commitments to developing strategic sustainable purchasing programs, sharing insights with the SPLC community, and advocating for government policies that promote sustainable purchasing.
Transparency and accountability are paramount in SPLC's operations. The organisation maintains strict conflict of interest policies for its governing boards and committees, ensuring impartial decision-making. Members involved in developing purchasing guidance or recommendations are required to disclose and avoid any potential conflicts of interest.
With its innovative approach and commitment to ethical practices, SPLC is setting new standards in sustainable procurement. As one member testified, the SPLC's tools and support are instrumental in benchmarking sustainability efforts and improving relationships throughout the supply chain, demonstrating the tangible impact of this social enterprise in the procurement landscape.
