Carbon management innovator carbmee, trusted by Maersk and Coca-Cola, lands $21M Series A funding to enhance AI-powered tools and tackle Scope 3 emissions

Enterprise carbon management firm carbmee is scaling new heights, securing US$21m (€20m) in Series A funding to expand its global operations and enhance product innovation.

Known for helping major organisations such as Maersk, Coca-Cola and Anglo American measure, manage, and reduce their carbon emissions, carbmee has tripled its annual revenue for three consecutive years.

The funding round, led by climate fintech advisor CommerzVentures, included participation from Fly Ventures and a group of angel investors. This capital supports carbmee’s ambitious plans to refine its offerings and address the increasing demand for sustainability in the supply chain.

A fresh approach to carbon management

The funds will enable carbmee to improve its Environmental Intelligence System (EISTM) and expand its service portfolio. These advancements aim to help businesses comply with complex carbon regulations while focusing on Scope 3 emissions—those generated indirectly through supply chains.

Scope 3 emissions are particularly challenging for organisations due to their indirect nature, often tied to suppliers and production processes.

carbmee’s technology simplifies this complexity by offering centralised tools powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced data analytics. This approach enables companies to track, manage and report emissions with exceptional accuracy, making carbon accounting as reliable as financial reporting.

CEO and Co-Founder Christian Heinrich emphasises the importance of addressing supply chain emissions: “With more than 80% of emissions being rooted in the supply chain, we have built a platform that not only meets the evolving needs of complex industry enterprises but also plays a critical role in the global shift toward sustainability.”

Christian continues: “This funding round is a validation of the innovative work we’ve done so far, but it’s also a launching point for what comes next.”

Breaking down data barriers

Founded in 2021, carbmee has identified and tackled a common issue in the manufacturing industry: siloed data systems.

In many organisations, departments like procurement, research and development (R&D) and finance operate independently, often relying on manual processes such as Excel spreadsheets to estimate carbon footprints.

Co-Founder Robin Spickers explains: “Currently, teams in large organisations work in data silos—procurement, R&D, finance, production—and rely on manual Excel spreadsheets to calculate carbon footprints, causing data inaccuracy and ineffective processes.”

By integrating these functions into a centralised platform, carbmee enables its clients to manage CO2 emissions across corporate, product, supplier and SKU levels.

This not only ensures greater data precision but also supports sustainability efforts across departments. Procurement teams, for instance, can gather primary data to choose the greenest suppliers, while R&D teams can focus on designing eco-friendly products.

Robin adds: “Our product provides a centralised platform for all enterprise users to manage CO2 emissions at the corporate, product, supplier and SKU levels, enabling CO2 data to be managed as accurately as financial data in an ERP system.”

Innovating for the future

A portion of the new funding will support the development of tools like carbmee Studio, which allows users to create customised, AI-powered reports and dashboards. This level of adaptability positions carbmee as a leader in sustainability technology, helping companies achieve ambitious environmental goals.

CommerzVentures’ Managing Partner, Paul Morgenthaler, highlights carbmee’s pivotal role: “Christian and Robin have already achieved phenomenal growth since founding carbmee.

"They are at the forefront of a vital industrial step-change as businesses around the world demand the knowledge and support to manage their carbon emissions.”

Paul adds: “Their powerful software breaks down the complexity of decarbonising global supply chains, solving a key problem for industries.”

With its proven track record and a growing list of high-profile clients such as Lufthansa Technik, Hilti and Miele, carbmee continues to make waves in carbon management.

By addressing the interconnected challenges of supply chain emissions and regulatory compliance, the company is paving the way for industries to embrace sustainability without sacrificing efficiency.
