When it comes to prioritising sustainability, Davis highlights the challenges that it comes with. In particular, balancing cost with sustainability, especially in the current landscape of inflation.

"Inflation is that it's an awful word. I've looked back in the last three years and I say that probably been the most challenging in my procurement career,” says Davis.

Davis highlights strategies such as downsising portions and collaborating with social enterprise businesses, to maintain a balance between being cost-effective and sustainable.

The role of technology

Another key consideration is the importance of partnerships,  she highlights authentic systems for transparency in the supply chain as beneficial solutions. She also mentions the benefits of AI and robotics noting technology as a key driver of efficiency and collaboration, and the significance of relevant data especially when it comes to the origins of products and supplier diversity.

"I think for me, it's about having the relevant data. The sort of data we want to get out from our suppliers and the products we buy is where do they come from,” she says.
