'Be holistic on third-party procurement risk' - Santander UK

Santander UK CRO Nick Jenkinson told Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE: The Risk & Resilience Conference managing 3rd party risk needs a holistic approach

In April 2022, Procurement Magazine, Supply Chain Digital and Bizclik Media Group returned to London's Tobacco Dock to host our second Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE.

Dubbed ‘The Risk & Resilience Conference’ the two-day hybrid event featured keynotes, roundtables, Q&As, and networking opportunities with inspirational and knowledgeable leaders in the procurement and supply chain space.

Nick Jenkinson is Chief Procurement Officer at Santander UK. He spoke to his lie and remote audience about managing post-pandemic third-party risk. "We're ever more reliant on third parties and therefore a third-party risk management programme requires an holistic approach."

Jenkinson said such an approach should cover::

  • Service management
  • Risk rating credibility
  • Risk processes, technologies and infrastructure
  • Transparency and governance
  • Internal activity management

Nick Jenkinson joined Santander UK as Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) in January 2021. He is tasked with delivering transformation across the organisation. Prior to Santander, Jenkinson was at Japan-based pharmaceutical organisation Astellas for five years. There he led transformation programmes across procurement and corporate real estate.

He says: "Twenty years is a long time in procurement, and the rapid digitisation in recent years has only accelerated that. I really noticed it when I moved into the world of services procurement, where where I recognised a difference in the way the function and use of technology has evolved.
