Black Friday usually conjures up images of hordes of intrepid shoppers, scrambling to catch the last remaining deals. While this was obviously true in some cases, it has emerged this year that shoppers are using mobile to avert the usual chaos.

The IBM Watson Trend, Black Friday 2015 report confirmed this: “Online retail sales rose by over 26 percent year on year and mobile shopping soared, accounting for nearly 60 percent of all online traffic and 40 percent of all online sales.”

Mallzee, a leading personalised shopping app styled on Tinder saw a 400 percent increase in usage, recording 75 swipes per second and over 1.6 million products rated.

Cally Russell, founder and CEO said: “With over 60 percent of online traffic this year coming from mobile devices it’s clear that this year really was the year of mobile. Whilst retailers spent millions opening their stores early they missed a trick by not being ready for the wave of mobile traffic. Next year we fully expect that 75 percent of traffic will come from mobile devices, which really will sound a death nail for the high street, and all those retailers with no mobile presence.”
