Coupa Inspire 2025: Panel Discussion with Aon, UPS and Snyk

Coupa Inspire 2025 got off to a flying start on Wednesday (14 May) with an engaging panel discussion on the main stage.
Melissa Salo, Global CPO at Aon, Jim McGrath, Chief Procurement and Real Estate Officer at UPS, and Chris Siwek, Vice President of Procurement at Snyk, discussed how their companies have leveraged Coupa's platform to drive transformational business outcomes.
E-invoicing transformation yields dramatic results
At Aon, Melissa has overseen a remarkable transformation of the company's invoicing processes.
"When I joined the firm, we only had 15% of invoices received electronically," she explained.
Through targeted supplier communication campaigns leveraging the Coupa platform's community data, Aon has increased electronic invoicing to 50% and aims to reach 85% through further outreach initiatives.
The impact of AI extends beyond just invoicing. Melissa emphasised the importance of creating a workforce that can lead "both machine and people," highlighting Aon's partnership with a renowned Harvard professor to develop a "30% digital mindset" throughout the organisation—an approach that research shows can drive exponential change.
Risk management and cost avoidance
For Chris and Snyk, AI has revolutionised supplier risk management.
"I take advantage of Coupa AI with Risk Aware and the fact that it's able to flag any suppliers that are potentially high risk," he explained.
This real-time visibility into supplier risk profiles has proven to be a "game changer" for compliance and audit processes.
Meanwhile, at UPS, Chief Procurement and Real Estate Officer Jim McGrath shared how AI-powered spend visibility has helped the company navigate recent tariff challenges.
Referencing China, he continued: "We had a situation a couple of weeks ago over one of our suppliers was imposing a 145% tariff. Who knows what that would've looked like when it finally got to the States, but the reality is we were able to flag it, we sourced the event back into the US and we had a US$1.7m cost avoidance."
Tail spend management and resource optimisation
Both UPS and Snyk highlighted the impact of AI on tail spend management and resource allocation.
Jim described how AI helped identify a 15-year-old shuttle service contract with no previous discounts, leading to US$400,00 in immediate savings through a competitive sourcing event.
Chris went on to share how AI has eliminated the need for manual expense monitoring at Snyk: "We took advantage of Coupa Spend Guard, which monitors these expenses automatically. We didn't actually have to hire the headcount and the people that were manually doing it were able to go and do other stuff."
As procurement technologies continue to evolve, these leaders remain enthusiastic about the future.
"Autonomous procurement is coming," Chris stated, while McGrath emphasised the importance of "good clean data" and governance as foundations for AI implementation.
Melissa concluded by offering pragmatic advice for organisations considering similar transformations: "Use this community that you're surrounded with, form relationships both with partners and other clients, and learn. Together it's going to be really powerful."
