Transforming US Steel’s procurement processes

US Steel, a prominent US$18bn integrated steel manufacturer headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has selected GEP to enhance its direct and indirect procurement operations.

The organisation, which is recognised for its cutting-edge operations in the US and Central Europe, serves diverse industries such as automotive, construction, energy, appliances and packaging.

Following a rigorous evaluation, US Steel chose GEP SOFTWARE to overhaul its S2C process, aiming to improve procurement efficiency, increase process transparency and automate data-heavy tasks.

Ultimately, this will enable US Steel’s procurement team to prioritise strategic, high-value activities while leveraging technology to optimise operations.

GEP’s role encompasses several critical functions within US Steel’s North American S2C framework, including sourcing, supplier and contract management and category management. By automating these processes and enhancing data visibility, GEP seeks to deliver long-term value and drive significant operational improvements.

Brian Bergersen, Associate Director at GEP

Brian Bergersen, Associate Director at GEP, said he was "thrilled to have such an iconic organisation leveraging GEP," adding: "Congratulations to the US Steel team on their upcoming transformation."

Driving efficiency through AI-powered solutions

GEP SOFTWARE is a comprehensive platform designed to address the evolving needs of procurement and supply chain operations.

For US Steel, GEP will focus on key areas to achieve measurable outcomes:

  • Enhanced visibility: By increasing transparency within the S2C process, GEP SOFTWARE enables better insights to uncover opportunities and drive new value.
  • Strategic sourcing tools: These tools help identify cost-saving opportunities, facilitate effective negotiations, and strengthen supplier relationships.
  • Risk mitigation: GEP supports contract and supplier evaluations to reduce potential vulnerabilities in the supply chain.
  • Process automation: Routine, manual tasks are streamlined to improve overall operational efficiency, freeing up resources for strategic initiatives.
