The Procurement Transformation Forum - P&SC LIVE Dubai
Presenting at Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE Dubai, Javad Mohammadi, Chief Procurement Officer at Mammut World and Cory Thwaites, Senior Executive Vice President of Group Procurement at QNB Group.
They were joined by Vidya Malkani, Director of Procurement & Supply Chain, Asma AlMulla, Director of Procurement at AW Rostamani Group and Alberto Medina, Founder of Telescope Group to discuss their exclusive insights and expert advice on The Procurement Transformation Forum.
A holistic approach to procurement transformation
The discussion began by outlining the procurement sector's shift in priorities towards efficiency and collaboration, rather than solely on cost reduction.
"In today's world, in procurement transformation, cost reduction is not the first priority," said Javad.
He highlighted the evolving role of procurement in creating value through strategic supply chain management and collaboration with suppliers, underscoring the critical importance of talented people in driving transformation initiatives, "Most part of the efficiency will relate to the people who implement or operate this transformation."
Similarly Corey advocated for standardisation and centralisation within procurement functions to streamline operations and enhance decision-making.
They also both emphasised the role of technology in supporting these efforts, advocating for tools that automate processes and integrate data for informed decision-making.
Together, their insights emphasise a holistic approach to procurement transformation, through integrating people, processes and technology to drive efficiency and resilience in a rapidly evolving business landscape.
Technological innovation
Later in the discussion, the speakers emphasised the need for procurement to closely align its goals with the broader vision and needs of the organisation, "before you take on the transformation journey, it's very important for procurement to understand what are the business goals objectives," said Vidya.
This strategic alignment ensures that transformation efforts yield maximum efficiency and value for the panellist's companies.
They also explained that technological investments initially represent an outlay but can decrease per-operation costs over time, "We believe that technology should be deflationary. So at the end of the day, the first steps we are implementing for transformation are working towards digitisation," Cory explained.
"We have leveraged our blockchain platform to transform the first mile in supply chain, particularly the container loading events."
They explained the practical application of blockchain technology to optimise supply chain visibility, especially in critical areas like container loading events.
This insight also provides a good reflection of the rest of the discussion; exemplifying technological innovation to deliver significant operational improvements and cost savings for procurement teams.
