Lenovo's Mission to Enhance Supply Chain Resilience

Saudi-based manufacturing company Alat and global technology leader Lenovo are pressing ahead with the the construction of a sustainable, large-scale manufacturing hub in Riyadh.
Set on a 200,000 sqm campus within 'Riyadh Integrated', operated by the Special Integrated Logistics Zone (SILZ), the factory is designed to produce millions of "Saudi Made" laptops, desktops and servers.
This development not only strengthens local supply chains but also positions Saudi Arabia as a major player in global tech manufacturing.
With a US$2bn investment, the facility is engineered to meet high sustainability standards and will serve as both a key driver of Saudi Arabia’s industrial ambitions and a strategic asset in Lenovo’s expansion across the Middle East and Africa (MEA).
Alat: Strengthening Saudi Arabia
Alat’s collaboration with Lenovo is just one of several investments planned by 2030 to bolster Saudi Arabia’s technology sector.
Beyond the establishment of a state-of-the-art factory, Alat aims to empower private sector businesses and enhance the commercial environment by working with leading global technology manufacturers. The company is actively developing local manufacturing capabilities across nine business units, covering 34 product categories. These range from semiconductors and smart devices to AI infrastructure and advanced industrial solutions.
Each unit is led by industry experts who are tasked with ensuring global competitiveness and optimising supply chains. By focusing on localisation, Alat reduces reliance on external suppliers and strengthens the domestic ecosystem, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s long-term industrial strategy.
Amit Midha, CEO of Alat, highlights the importance of the collaboration: “We are incredibly proud to become a strategic investor in Lenovo and partner with them on their continued journey as a leading global technology company.
"Alat and Lenovo have also entered a business development partnership which will leverage Alat’s extensive relationships in the region and local market insight.
Lenovo: Strengthening regional supply chains
Lenovo’s new manufacturing hub is strategically positioned just 15 minutes from Riyadh’s international airport within SILZ, a location designed to facilitate efficient logistics. Set to begin production in 2026, the facility will integrate seamlessly into Lenovo’s global supply chain, complementing the company’s network of over 30 factories worldwide, including those in China, India, Germany and the USA.
The hub’s presence in Riyadh enhances Lenovo’s ability to respond to shifting regional demands, reduce lead times and improve overall service delivery. By securing a production base within Saudi Arabia, the company strengthens its supply chain resilience while streamlining procurement for both public and private sector buyers in the MEA region.
Lenovo has consistently been recognised for supply chain excellence, ranking among the world’s top 25 supply chains and most recently securing the #10 position in Gartner’s global rankings. The Riyadh hub further cements this reputation, positioning Lenovo as a key player in the delivery of industry-leading products, services and solutions, while capitalising on the rapid growth of IT and business services across the region.
Yuanqing Yang, Chairman and CEO of Lenovo, emphasises the importance of the expansion: "Through this powerful strategic collaboration and investment with Alat, we gain greater global presence, a strong regional foothold and the ability to capitalise on the incredible growth momentum in KSA and the wider MEA region."
Driving economic diversification and innovation
The partnership between Alat and Lenovo is a crucial component of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, aligning with the Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) strategy to drive economic diversification and enhance local manufacturing capabilities.
The manufacturing hub is expected to generate up to 15,000 direct jobs and as many as 45,000 indirect jobs, contributing an estimated US$10bn to the country’s non-oil GDP by 2030. By localising production, the facility will not only create employment but also establish Saudi Arabia as a hub for high-quality electronics across MEA markets.
Beyond manufacturing, Lenovo is also expanding its regional presence by setting up a MEA headquarters in Riyadh. This move includes a flagship retail space, increased investment in R&D and expanded marketing and strategic partnerships across Saudi Arabia and the wider region.
With these investments, Saudi Arabia is strengthening its position as a key player in global technology and manufacturing, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and sustainable economic growth.
