How XPO Logistics Keeps Tour Gears Turning Through 2030

XPO Logistics has secured its role as Official Transport Partner of both the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift through to 2030, reinforcing one of the longest-running partnerships in global sport.
The relationship, rooted in logistics expertise and a shared focus on sustainability, stretches back to 1980 and now edges towards a milestone of half a century.
This renewed agreement means XPO Logistics will continue to manage the intricate and fast-paced logistics operation for cyclingâs most recognisable races. That includes transporting and assembling infrastructure like podiums, arches, signage and sponsor installations across all 21 stages of the Tour.
On race days, the team has between three and five hours to set up start villages, finish lines and intermediate points before packing it all up to do it again the following day.
The company dispatches more than 45 trucks and in excess of 50 drivers to handle hundreds of tonnes of equipment over thousands of kilometres.
From tight switchbacks in the Alps to coastal cities in the west, their drivers are experienced in handling deliveries through narrow mountain passes and unpredictable conditions. Itâs a relentless pace, but one XPO has mastered through decades of familiarity with the unique demands of the Tour.
That same logistical know-how now supports the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, which launched in 2022. XPO has handled its transport operation since the inaugural race, applying the same standards to help the womenâs tour grow alongside the menâs edition.
Innovation on the road and in the tank
Sustainability continues to shape the collaboration as XPO Logistics pushes ahead with its LESS HVO solution in 2025, expanding its use of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) biofuel to power its fleet.
Distributed through its own fuel tank network, the HVO reduces COâ emissions by up to 90% compared with diesel. Itâs already helped avoid 223,370 kg of COâ emissions last year alone.
The vehicles used by XPO for Tour operations meet Euro 6 standards, meaning they cut nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 70%. Euro 6 is the European Unionâs current emissions standard for light and heavy-duty vehicles, setting strict limits for pollutants like carbon monoxide and particulates.
These environmental measures apply across both Tours, aligning with Amaury Sport Organisationâs wider goals for greener events. The collaboration showcases how major sporting events can adapt to the climate challenge without compromising on operational delivery.
Thomas Cariou, CSR Director at Amaury Sport Organisation, says: "We're delighted to be able to count on the expertise of XPO Logistics as we take on the logistical challenge of combining operational reliability with the high standards of sustainability required to stage a travelling event on the scale of the Tour.
"Together, we continue to innovate and raise the bar year after year, notably through the rollout of HVO biofuel across the entire truck fleet, which underscores our shared commitment to progress in both the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift."
One team, one road, one aim
Beyond the flagship races, XPO also supports 12 other events run by the Amaury Sport Organisation. These include ParisâNice, the CritĂ©rium du DauphinĂ© and ParisâRoubaix, alongside their respective womenâs races.
Each event brings its own logistical hurdles, but the principles remain the sameâprecision, consistency and adaptability, backed by a clear push towards more sustainable operations.
Luis Gómez, President of XPO Logistics Europe, says: "We're honoured to extend our role as Official Transport Partner through 2030, as we approach nearly 50 years of collaboration. This long-standing partnership reflects our shared commitment to operational excellence, innovation and sustainability.
"I'm especially pleased to confirm the continuation of this journey, and we remain fully dedicated to bringing the same level of passion, precision and care to the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift."
In France, where much of the operation is based, the sentiment is just as strong. Bruno Kloeckner, Managing Director of France for XPO Logistics, adds: "The Tour is far more than a logistical challenge. It's a source of pride and a true honour for our teams.
"For over 45 years, weâve shared with the teams of the Tour de France the same drive for excellence, innovation and responsibility. This long-standing partnership reflects our values and our ability to support major events in their sustainable transitions."
