SAP Concur & Amex GBT: Reshaping Business Travel Management

SAP Concur and American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) have joined forces to launch Complete, a unified travel and expense (T&E) platform built for corporate travel managers and procurement teams.
It combines booking, payments, servicing and expensing in one system, powered by AI and designed to create a smoother, more integrated experience across the entire business travel process.
Fred Fredericks, General Manager and Chief Product Officer at SAP Concur, says: "This strategic alliance represents the future of travel and expense management.
"By uniting SAP Concur technology and global expertise with Amex GBTâs unmatched marketplace, software and service plus our mutual AI capabilities, we are delivering a unified solution that makes business travel not only easier, but smarter and more impactful for organisations everywhere."
Complete is the result of both companies combining their corporate travel and expense management technologies. SAP Concur contributes its Concur Expense tool, while Amex GBT brings its Egencia travel booking platform and large content network into the mix.
Customers using either platform now have access to a fully-integrated system that connects every stage of the travel process.
A connected T&E system
Complete delivers a joined-up approach to business travel management by integrating expense reporting with a global travel marketplace. This is structured around three pillars: marketplace, software and services.
Through access to Amex GBTâs travel content, Complete users tap into a marketplace that spans more than 600 airlines and two million accommodation properties. This inventory feeds into the SAP Concur platform, helping procurement teams access better rates, improved discounts and more attractive corporate travel incentives.
Customers benefit from wider travel content across flights, rail, hotels and ground transport. An integrated chat agent supports users throughout the journey in one interface, helping manage bookings, changes and expenses. This setup reduces time spent navigating multiple systems and provides faster, more reliable service.
The platform also speeds up the availability of New Distribution Capability (NDC) content. NDC is a data standard developed by the airline industry to give travel agents direct access to airline fare structures, availability and personalised offers. This content supports better compliance with travel policy while offering more transparent pricing.
Complete uses AI tools trained on millions of journeys and transactions from both SAP Concur and Amex GBT. This enables the platform to respond to policy changes, user preferences and real-time travel conditions with improved speed and accuracy.
AI for procurement and policy optimisation
AI is at the centre of Completeâs value for procurement professionals and travel managers. The platform uses its AI to improve personalisation, compliance and visibility, helping teams align corporate travel with procurement strategies.
Evan Konwiser, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Amex GBT, adds: "This bold step forward with SAP Concur reimagines how travel and expense solutions can deliver unprecedented value to our customers and their travellers in the AI age.
"Our unique collaboration empowers us to build new software together that deeply integrates our data, marketplace and servicing capabilities across both travel and expense to deliver the future that the industry seeks."
Complete uses integrated data from both providers to analyse historical travel and spend patterns, helping organisations adjust policies, improve programme performance and respond to travel disruptions in real time.
AI features also provide travellers with personalised insights. For example, users might receive cost-saving suggestions during booking or instant rebooking options during delays, making for a better travel experience while reducing overall spend.
A shared roadmap for the travel ecosystem
Complete is now available to shared SAP Concur and Amex GBT customers, with additional features in the pipeline. SAP Concur has confirmed users of its Concur Expense tool can now choose to integrate with Amex GBTâs Egencia platform for end-to-end management of T&E.
As part of the collaboration, SAP Concur is also evolving its Partner Programme for Travel Management Companies (TMCs). The new model is built to bring added value to current and future customers of both companies.
The development pipeline includes broader travel content visibility, new controls for travel managers and a booking experience enhanced with AI tools. The platform also targets improved management of disruptions and more advanced programme analytics through joint use of travel data and machine learning.
Ultimately, by aligning their tools and expertise, SAP Concur and Amex GBT aim to offer greater transparency, tighter control and better decision-making across the T&E lifecycle.
