PepsiCo & AWS: Driving Digital Supply Chain Transformation

Consumers in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide enjoy PepsiCo’s products more than one billion times a day.
That’s a vast, complex and intricate supply chain to manage, which the food and beverage giant does so with great success.
PepsiCo’s approach to delivering this consistent level of customer satisfaction relies on a supply chain built on efficiency, resilience, sustainability and innovation.
Leveraging the latest technologies and building collaborations with leading technology companies plays a particularly important role in driving the ongoing digital transformation necessary to optimise operations and meet evolving consumer tastes.
To deliver on these goals, the company has recently announced a strategic, multi-year partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) that will transform its supply chain, enable faster AI innovation and deliver more personalised customer experiences.
"A cloud-first approach has been essential to PepsiCo's ongoing digital transformation," says Dr. Athina Kanioura, Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer at PepsiCo.
"This strategic collaboration will strengthen our mature cloud strategy and unlock new levels of agility, intelligence and scalability across the company."
Enterprise-wide transformation
Under the agreement, PepsiCo will leverage AWS’s cloud infrastructure and services across core areas of its business and global operations.
AWS, along with its Professional Services team – a global team of consultants who help customers realise desired business outcomes when using the AWS Cloud – will work with PepsiCo on areas such as cloud migration, modernisation and Gen AI.
"Consumer packaged goods companies need to continuously innovate to meet the evolving expectations of consumers," explains Matt Garman, CEO at AWS.
"With AWS, PepsiCo is applying AI and using cloud services across their organisation to deliver more personalised consumer experiences, optimise supply chains and build new operational capabilities. We're proud to support PepsiCo as they innovate to serve billions of consumers worldwide."
Digital supply chains to increase efficiency
The two companies are considering opportunities to deliver end-to-end digital supply chain capabilities that will deliver greater operational efficiencies and improve resilience.
This includes predictive maintenance for both manufacturing and logistics operations, critical across the company’s global network of manufacturing and distribution facilities.
PepsiCo has a vast operational footprint that spans more than 200 countries and includes numerous suppliers, a multitude of owned and contracted manufacturing sites, and own-fleet and third-party logistics partners.
AWS has a suite of cloud-based tools that can help companies manage supply chains like this, including innovations that offer end-to-end visibility, real-time data and machine-learning-powered insights.
Modernisation and personalisation
Elsewhere, the collaboration will focus on the application of key AWS technologies, including Gen AI and Agentic AI, to yield results.
For example, PepsiCo is migrating applications and workloads to AWS, building on an ongoing cloud-first journey designed to position the company to quickly be able to build, test, iterate and implement new business and customer-focused innovations.
AWS has also helped to enhance the capabilities and flexibility of PepsiCo’s existing internal Gen AI platform, PepGenX, by integrating it with its own Amazon Bedrock – a fully managed service that simplifies the process for building Gen AI applications and enables customisation and deployment.
Customer satisfaction and user experience are also crucial to PepsiCo’s ongoing success.
To better understand rapidly evolving consumer demand, the company will leverage AWS to gain better insights and data into areas such as advertising performance, audience demographics and hyper-personalised content.
This will also enable targeted marketing capabilities across Amazon customers and audiences.
This and other initiatives are driven by PepsiCo’s vision to be the global leader in beverages and convenient foods underpinned by pep+ (PepsiCo Positive).
pep+ is a strategic end-to-end transformation that puts sustainability and human capital at the centre of how the company will create value and growth by operating within planetary boundaries and inspiring positive change for the planet and its people.
