Supply Chain Digital looks at how Kraft Heinz is using OMP’s Unison Planning Solution to intelligently enhance its supply chain

Amid complex global supply chain challenges, having the right technology solutions is critical for food and beverage giants like Kraft Heinz. The iconic company, which owns brands like Heinz Ketchup, Kraft Macaroni & Cheese and Oscar Mayer, is taking its supply chain planning to the next level by implementing OMP’s Unison Planning Solution.

OMP helps companies facing complex planning challenges to excel, grow and thrive by offering the best digitised supply chain planning solution on the market. Hundreds of customers in several industries – spanning consumer goods, life sciences, chemicals, metals, paper and packaging – benefit from using OMP’s unique Unison Planning solution, an AI-powered supply chain planning platform that allows companies to model their end-to-end supply chain. By combining data from systems like ERP, WMS, TMS and more, Unison helps organisations optimise plans across manufacturing, distribution, inventory and transportation. The solution, it says, empowers supply chain professionals with explainable AI (XAI) engines, quick and easy scenarios and a fully telescopic digital twin for better and faster decisions in today's volatile environment.

The company was recently recognised as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Supply Chain Planning Solutions. “These are exciting times,” comments Philip Vervloesem, Senior Vice President at OMP USA. “We’re pioneering autonomous planning with advanced XAI engines for agile decision-making and Gen AI to enhance user experience, while our AI-powered Data Genie makes master data much more accurate, keeping your digital twin in sync with reality.

“Working with customers, we’re innovating outside-in planning, incorporating external data like consumer sentiment and real-time data from smart devices. And our Green Planning approach helps customers make sustainable planning decisions and reduce their environmental footprint by setting eco-friendly KPIs.”

Its solution has offered Kraft Heinz’s planners a centralised platform with unprecedented insight into what happens at every stage of the supply chain, including procurement, production and distribution.

Kraft Heinz and OMP showcase journey to autonomous supply planning

Attendees of the Gartner Supply Chain Symposium/Xpo 2024 in Orlando explored Kraft Heinz’s integration of decision intelligence and advanced mathematical optimisation to future-proof their supply planning, powered by Unison Planning.

During the session, Adis Sulejmanović, Head of Digital Supply Chain Transformation & Strategy at Kraft Heinz, shared how the company embarked on a journey toward autonomous supply planning with OMP, with Kraft Heinz's integration of decision intelligence and advanced mathematical optimisation helping to propel its supply planning toward the future. By leveraging Unison Planning, the company navigates the complexities of supply chain management with measurable results, strong vision-led collaboration and a focus on continuous improvement.

OMP earlier announced that it was assisting Kraft Heinz China in implementing its integrated Unison Planning solution, aimed at significantly improving inventory management and providing it with the ability to respond more rapidly to market volatility.

Seven plants in China were brought onto the Unison Planning platform, all producing Kraft Heinz condiments and sauces, with Unison Planning subsequently being rolled out to Kraft Heinz plants in Europe and the Middle East.

“The project delivery was timed to perfection,” Sébastien Aubrey, Regional Vice President at OMP, said at the time. “We acted as a trusted advisor to help Kraft Heinz harmonize their planning and scheduling step by step, as the project built to maturity. Covid-19 presented a challenge but was also a stimulus for the teams to work together and truly deliver value.”
