MTN's Transformation: Andrew Savage Named as GSSC Leader

MTN Group has confirmed that Andrew Savage will take up the position of Executive: Global Sourcing and Supply Chain (GSSC) from 1 May 2026. The appointment ends a period during which he held the role in an acting capacity.
Andrew brings more than 20 years of experience in global sourcing and supply chain management. The appointment comes at a time when procurement functions are becoming more central to how enterprises create value.
His confirmation in the role could signal that MTN plans to continue its transformation agenda. The company has indicated a focus on resilience, digitalisation and sustainability within its supply chain operations.
Supply chain integration
The appointment follows MTN's efforts to maintain momentum in its procurement transformation. Andrew has already overseen the GSSC function in an acting capacity, which means he brings institutional knowledge to the permanent role.
His mandate centres on strengthening the integration of sourcing and supply chain operations. This includes aligning procurement more closely with the Group's broader objectives.
The role requires enhancing agility across markets and ensuring procurement can respond to global supply uncertainties. Sustainable procurement practices form part of the remit and are now core to how the supply chain function operates.
Resilience and operational agility
"I am confident that under his leadership, procurement and supply chain will continue to be a key strategic enabler for MTN," says Tsholofelo Molefe, MTN Group Chief Financial Officer.
Andrew's career has included leadership in digital procurement transformation. He joined MTN as a Consultant in Transformation and Operational Excellence in 2015 and has since progressed to Group Executive and Chief Procurement Officer.
During that time, he has worked on centralising procurement operations across 22 countries. This centralisation could contribute to improved efficiency and governance across MTN's footprint.
The role now requires accelerating digital capabilities within the supply chain, including tools for transparency, efficiency and decision making.
Digital tools and sustainable value
Andrew has implemented eSourcing tools and advanced spend analytics frameworks designed to modernise procurement practices across MTN's operations.
His new role is expected to build on these initiatives. The focus includes embedding digital capabilities that improve how the supply chain functions.
Sustainable value creation is also part of the mandate. According to MTN, procurement is expected to deliver cost savings while contributing to environmental and social goals across the supply chain ecosystem.
"I'm really grateful and a little humbled, if I'm honest, to be stepping into the role of Group Executive: GSSC-Global Sourcing and Supply Chain at MTN," Andrew writes on LinkedIn.
"I'm excited for the future; for stronger partnerships, simpler ways of work and relentless execution."
Operational transformation
Andrew's progression within MTN shows his expertise in procurement excellence and operational transformation. His early work involved centralising procurement across multiple countries, followed by leading the Group's Procurement Excellence function.
"He is recognised for a collaborative and people-centred leadership style and for his ability to connect people, processes and technology to deliver measurable impact," writes MTN.
The appointment positions supply chain as a function that can respond to market volatility and suggests MTN sees procurement as a strategic lever rather than a cost function.
As Andrew steps into the executive role, the focus appears to be on building a supply chain that can adapt to future challenges while maintaining operational efficiency.
