How PIL and Ivalua Optimise Logistics Sourcing Efficiency

Pacific International Lines (PIL) is partnering with Ivalua to overhaul how it sources, manages and contracts suppliers across its global operations.
The shift towards a unified digital infrastructure aims to streamline complex supply chains while embedding resilience and sustainability into the backbone of its business.
Founded in 1967 and headquartered in Singapore, PIL operates a fleet of around 100 container vessels with a combined capacity of more than 400,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units, the standard measure for cargo containers).
With reach across more than 90 countries and 500 locations, PIL maintains a strong presence across Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Oceania.
The latest move sees PIL bringing in Ivalua’s Source-to-Contract (S2C) solution, a procurement platform designed to optimise supplier engagement, performance monitoring, sourcing and contract management.
Supply chain integration
Central to PIL’s strategy is the drive to integrate procurement more tightly with its supply chain operations. With a business spread across multiple geographies and a supplier base that must balance cost, quality and compliance, efficient procurement becomes essential.
Ivalua’s S2C platform connects three internal systems used by PIL and helps automate the procurement cycle from sourcing through to contract.
According to the company, this delivers one consistent approach across its markets and creates a “single source of truth” for supplier and contract data. This kind of centralisation allows for faster, data-led decisions and reduces operational risks from supplier non-compliance.
The platform’s tools also focus on enforcing contract adherence and monitoring supplier risk. By standardising checklists and performance criteria, PIL strengthens its compliance capabilities while keeping contracts in step with both local regulations and global standards.
Joseph Choo, Technology & Transformation Partner at Deloitte Singapore, explains: “By combining Ivalua’s market-leading Source-to-Contract capabilities with Deloitte’s proven expertise in procurement and supply chain transformation, we aim to accelerate value delivery, strengthen compliance and build a scalable digital, future-ready procurement function for PIL.”
Sustainability's role in sourcing decisions
Sustainability now also plays a central role in procurement decisions at PIL. The company’s partnership with Ivalua supports this by embedding environmental and social governance into supplier management, from how vendors are selected to how performance is assessed.
“In 2024, we introduced the first two LNG dual-fuel 14,000 TEU container vessels, Kota Eagle and Kota Emerald, which is part of our ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility,” says Executive Chairman Teo Siong Seng.
“This is a testament to our fleet renewal journey and ongoing investment in a lower-carbon future.”
PIL also aligns procurement with its broader climate strategy. Offices in Chile, Ghana, Dubai, India and China all now operate on electricity backed by renewable energy certificates.
Teo adds: “Our drive for sustainability is not limited to our ships. We have also adopted renewable energy sources where we can.
"In 2024, all electricity consumption in our headquarters and our offices in China, Chile, Ghana, Dubai and India was matched with local renewable energy certificates. This helped us to reduce our GHG footprint in these countries.”
With Ivalua, PIL gains the ability to trace supplier emissions data, align contracts with sustainability goals, and ensure all vendors uphold similar values. This feeds directly into the company’s broader environmental reporting and risk management processes.
Creating a platform for growth
This procurement transformation is not just about cost control or automation. For PIL, it is about positioning the company to handle global disruptions, adapt to changing regulatory landscapes and manage supplier relationships with greater transparency and efficiency.
Andrew Stafford, Vice President for Asia Pacific at Ivalua, explains: “We look forward to delivering a future-ready procurement function that drives value, resilience and agility across the organisation.”
PIL has chosen Ivalua for its adaptability to complex global logistics operations and its focus on supplier relationship and performance management (SRPM).
The platform’s ability to connect with third-party risk intelligence providers and support digital signatures through specialised partners makes it a flexible tool for compliance in multiple jurisdictions.
Crucially, it will also help PIL remain responsive to supply chain pressures that affect everything from shipbuilding materials to fuel sourcing, contract logistics and on-shore support.
With all sourcing and contract data housed in one integrated system, the company can act quickly without compromising governance or quality.
As global supply chains continue to evolve, PIL’s approach shows that procurement must play an active role in helping companies reach sustainability goals, navigate global uncertainty and deliver consistent value to customers.
