amfori: Refining Supply Chain Auditing for ESG Compliance

Amfori, recognised for its commitment to sustainable trade, is enhancing its audit processes to better align with ESG standards.
The update promises to fortify supply chains by encouraging a more proactive involvement of suppliers in their ESG compliance activities.
"Supply chain management, including risk management, will play an even more important role in companies given today’s increasingly volatile market," says Linda Kromjong, President of amfori. "More importantly, procurement and supply chain experts are closely intertwined.
"Building a resilient supply chain requires collaboration across multiple departments of a business, including HR, product development, sustainability and ESG teams, operations, stakeholder engagement, communication and legal and compliance."
A strategic advancement in ESG engagement
From July 2025, suppliers associated with Amfori members will have the autonomy to initiate their sustainability audits.
This transformative update will be integrated into the Amfori Sustainability Platform, designed to elevate supplier ESG profiles and improve performance data sharing across supply chains.
This system advances shared accountability, urging suppliers to take responsible actions on ESG risks, which Helen Kaestner, Head of Operations at Amfori, emphasised: “We are making it easier for committed suppliers to take action on sustainability, while giving our members the space to focus on analysis and long-term improvement.”

Integrated audit processes for supplier autonomy
The integration of this update assures a seamless alignment with existing auditing protocols, maintaining traceability and safeguarding against unethical practices.
The amfori platform will support members in continuing to manage audits, while also enabling notifications and thorough follow-up processes, ensuring continuous supplier involvement.
Empowering suppliers in global markets
This significant development allows suppliers to exemplify their ESG adherence, encouraging a collaborative supply chain environment.
For smaller suppliers especially, this could open avenues for market access and recognition.
Furthermore, as global regulations intensify around human rights due diligence, a shared platform like amfori’s boosts visibility, credibility and transparency throughout the supply chain.
By inviting suppliers to engage actively in their sustainability undertakings, amfori fosters a culture of accountability and improvement, particularly crucial for suppliers in burgeoning markets. In this endeavour, amfori continues to mould a more responsible procurement landscape.
