Executives from Google, Kaiser Permanente and Urban Outfitters join the GS1 US board to drive digital transformation and supply chain efficiency

The GS1 US Board of Governors has elected three new members to join the GS1 US Board: Senthil Subramanian, Principal Engineer and Area Technical Lead at Google, Steven Chyung, Senior Vice President, Chief Supply Chain and Procurement Officer at Kaiser Permanente and Omar A. Tovar, Chief Logistics Officer at Urban Outfitters.

GS1 US enables companies to power their supply chains to deliver safe, consistent, authentic and trusted experiences. Best known as a source for UPC barcodes, GS1 is a not-for-profit, global data standards organisation that creates a common language for companies to identify, capture and share trusted data that links their physical and digital supply chains.

These executives join a distinguished group of leaders shaping the GS1 US strategy. Together, they drive the adoption of GS1 Standards as a universal foundation for supply chain efficiency, retail commerce and enhanced consumer and patient experiences. The cross-industry Board of Governors spans key sectors, including apparel, general merchandise, grocery, foodservice and healthcare.

Industry leaders driving data strategy

Senthil oversees the Shopping Graph at Google, ensuring the integrity, coverage, richness and freshness of the massive product datasets that power global shopping experiences across Search, YouTube and Ads.

An expert in large-scale data infrastructure, Senthil previously served as Vice President at Yahoo, leading advertising infrastructure and targeting systems.

He was also a founding member of the original Hadoop team, helping pioneer open-source big data.

Steven Chyung, Senior Vice President, Chief Supply Chain and Procurement Officer, Kaiser Permanente

Steven leads Kaiser Permanente’s end-to-end supply chain organisation, directing sourcing, procurement, fulfilment and demand forecasting to ensure reliable, cost-effective service delivery.

He joined Kaiser Permanente from SCL Health, where he built and managed shared services across supply chain, clinical engineering and real estate.

Previously, Steven held leadership roles at Novartis in both Europe and the US, establishing global Centers of Excellence and leading procurement operations.

Omar A. Tovar, Chief Logistics Officer, Urban Outfitters

Global retail and healthcare alignment

Omar oversees global supply chain operations for Urban Outfitters, Inc. (URBN), managing logistics, transportation, fulfilment innovation and systems integration across a global omni-channel network.

Supporting iconic brands like Anthropologie, Free People and Urban Outfitters, Omar has successfully expanded URBN's fulfilment footprint through advanced automation.

With more than 30 years of apparel manufacturing and supply chain experience across North America, Latin America, Asia and Europe, he previously held leadership roles at Nike and Coach.
