Why Essity is a Recognised Supplier Engagement Leader

Founded in 2017 and with roots stretching to 1849, Essity has established itself as a leading force in hygiene and health.
Every day, a billion people across 150 countries reap the benefits of its portfolio of brands.
Now, the international non-profit organisation CDP has named Essity as a Supplier Engagement Leader, acknowledging its commitment to sustainability for the sixth consecutive year.
The Essity journey
Essity’s journey began in 1929 as part of a Swedish company called SCA.
In the 1970s, the company expanded beyond forestry and pulp and into the hygiene and health sector. Through its acquisition of Mölnlycke and Wisconsin Tissue, it grew into a global business.
In 2017, the company split, leading to the establishment of Essity, a company exclusively dedicated to hygiene and health.
Over the years, Essity acquired a range of medical solutions companies, including BSN Medical, Novioscan and ABIGO Medical, leading to the creation of a global hygiene and health industry leader.
Now, Essity is rightly considered a leader in sustainability in the industry and is aiming to achieve net zero by 2050.
Essity works towards full value chain decarbonisation and improving circularity as a means to make its supply chain more sustainable. With years of industry experience, it encourages those in its value chain to promote responsible practices and deliver sustainable outcomes.
Jessica Nordlinder, VP Global Procurement at Essity, says: "Our approach to supplier collaboration is built on clear expectations, robust support and the fostering of innovation.
“We communicate our environmental targets, provide the necessary tools and training, and encourage new solutions to reduce emissions.”
CPD recognition
CDP runs the only independent environmental disclosure system in the world, focusing on companies, cities and capital markets to manage supply chain and business transparency, moving towards a sustainable and honest future.
Every year, CDP publishes its Supplier Engagement Assessment (SEA), which evaluates how businesses are interacting with their supply chains about environmental issues.
The SEA encourages companies to engage their suppliers on climate change and work towards building a more sustainable supply chain.
This year marks the sixth consecutive year Essity has made the list and been celebrated for its work towards net zero.
The organisation has made various changes and improvements to its supply chain to reduce total emissions, believing that close collaboration and engagement with its suppliers are the best ways to achieve its goal.
Jessica continues: “Open communication and strong partnerships ensure our suppliers are fully engaged and committed to our shared climate action mission.”
Global partnerships
With approximately 70 production facilities worldwide and sales in approximately 150 countries, Essity’s global reach allows it to help people around the world access safe and sustainable health and hygiene supplies, building towards a better future.
Essity believes in strong partnership as a means to make the changes necessary to reduce emissions and minimise environmental impact.
It aims to collectively reduce Scope 3 related carbon emissions by 35% by 2030, which includes sourcing key raw materials.
In 2024, Essity reported a Scope 3 reduction of 21%.
Nicole Anderson Brodin, Sustainable Procurement Manager at Essity comments: “We are very proud to be recognised by CDP for our efforts in supplier engagement, or rather, partner collaboration.
“We are far from finished, but together with our supply partners we continue to forge ahead toward what is imperative: a low-carbon economy. The spirit of collaboration is alive and well.”
With continued recognition, Essity further establishes its position as a global leader and is making significant progress to both short- and long term sustainable supply chain goals.
