Why DP World is Unifying Marine Services for Logistics
DP World has announced the unification of its Marine Services brands, in a move to strengthen its position as an integrated global logistics provider.
Over the coming months, the transition will help expand DP World's global capabilities to connect global trade flow.
Through this unification, there will be more efficient trade for global supply chains, with less risk of handover errors.
Uniting brands
DP World is working to reshape the future of global trade, with a current operating network across six continents. As a leader in port operations, the company is now undergoing a transformational expansion, in its move to becoming a fully integrated logistics provider.
The company combines global infrastructure and local expertise in order to deliver supply chain solutions and minimise disruptions through its range of services.
Now, DP World has announced it is unifying its Marine Services brands, Unifeeder, P&O Ferrymasters and P&O Maritime Logistics, under once DP World brand. The businesses will be retitiled:
- Unifeeder will become Shipping Solutions
- P&O Ferrymasters will henceforth be known as Multimodal Solutions
- P&O Maritime Logistics will now operate as Maritime Solutions
The legacy brands will become part of the DP World identity, including digital, physical and customer touchpoints. They will each operate under their leadership and teams, with the same transport solutions and infrastructure remaining, but they will not be united by a shared brand identity.
"We are building a future where trade flows effortlessly," says Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at DP World.
"While we honour the legacy of the brands we have built, we are now evolving together as one DP World team to further enhance our customer offering across the globe. Unifying these brands complements the next natural step in our transformation journey from a leading port operator into a fully integrated global logistics provider.”
Increasing capabilities and efficiency
The aim of this transformation is to turn DP World into an integrated logistics provider, with each of its brands playing a vital role in connecting global trade flows. From feedering and shortsea shipping to inland logistics and offshore services. Rather than having to conduct handoffs, DP World can now deliver a total spectrum of solutions under a single, trusted brand.
Shipping solutions connects more than 200 ports with more than 16,000 port calls every year. Its fleet contains 150 vessels, offering a range of sizes from 350-8,500 TEU. Its shipping capabilities makes it a valuable player for DP World's transformation.
Connecting road, rail and sea, Multimodal Solutions helps DP World conduct end-to-end logistics solutions, reducing the need for handoffs, which can cause errors and delays. It oversees an excess of 100 rail modalities across the UK and Europe, operating 14 inland terminals, with specialised services for general, perishable and high-value cargo.
As part of Maritime Solutions's global fleet of more than 400 vessels, 17 specialised Multi-Purpose Cargo Vessels (MCVs) help with complex cargo operations. They can work in shallow-draft and sea-river environments, and the company has significant experience providing Pilotage and Towage services across international ports.
"As supply chains evolve, so must we. Our customers increasingly expect seamless, end-to-end service delivery," adds Ganesh Raj, Global Chief Operating Officer, Marine Services at DP World.
"Unifying our Marine Services businesses under one brand reinforces our ability to meet that expectation while positioning ourselves for growth in an increasingly complex logistics landscape. Our customers will interact with a unified brand that represents who we are today. Employees will continue to do what they do best, delivering critical services and solutions across the global supply chain, but now under a shared identity that reflects the full strength of DP World.”
The unification of these businesses will help customers move cargo more efficiently and more sustainably, as the multimodal capabilities ensure the best mode is being used to transport each item. The integration across continents unlocks new levels of reliable trade flow for its clients, ensuring supply chain efficiency can occur at all times.
