Descartes acquires Idelic to boost AI-driven fleet safety, adding vast telemetry data to strengthen performance insights across its logistics network

Descartes Systems Group has acquired AI safety specialist Idelic in a move designed to deepen its data capabilities and strengthen fleet performance management across its global logistics network.

The deal is Descartes' 36th in 10 years and underlines the company’s focus on embedding AI into logistics operations, particularly across last-mile delivery and fleet environments.

Idelic brings a safety intelligence platform that consolidates training, monitoring, reporting and coaching into a single workflow. Its system is built on a dataset spanning more than 40 billion miles of telemetry and over 400,000 accident records.

The platform integrates with more than 80 telematics, risk management and regulatory systems, enabling real-time, event-level data capture and analysis.

“The need for trusted, real-time fleet and operational data is becoming increasingly critical as customers advance their AI strategies,” says Edward J. Ryan, Descartes’ CEO.

“By combining Idelic’s predictive safety intelligence and unique, critical data with Descartes’ GLN, we’re strengthening the data foundation that powers smarter fleet performance decisions and safer, more efficient operations.”

Analytics and data combined

Built on machine learning models trained across more than one hundred and fifty fleets, Idelic’s technology is designed to predict driver risk and support targeted safety interventions.

The combination of predictive analytics and operational data reflects a wider industry shift towards more integrated performance management tools.

Hayden Cardiff, VP of Idelic, says: "I'm excited for what this means for our customers as we enhance our ability to deliver on the mission of getting drivers home safe each night."

Descartes acquired Idelic for approximately US$28m in cash, with a further performance-based earn-out of up to US$12m tied to revenue targets over the next two years.

Enhancing the final-mile footprint

“Productivity and safety are equally critical for fleet operators,” says James Wee, General Manager of Fleet Management at Descartes.

“This acquisition adds critical data to our Global Logistics Network (GLN) and enhances Descartes’ final-mile footprint by adding highly advanced fleet safety capabilities and deep domain expertise.

“Idelic’s AI-powered predictive safety intelligence functionality, when combined with Descartes’ industry leading routing planning and execution technology, enables us to deliver a complete and cutting-edge fleet performance management solution that uniquely incorporates driver behavior and safety signals into our robust operational data set.”

Any additional payments are expected in fiscal 2028 and 2029, subject to performance. Idelic, headquartered in Pittsburgh in the US, will now become part of Descartes’ expanding Global Logistics Network ecosystem.
