Supply chain disruption has exposed the risks of fragmented operational structures. Coupa has announced a collaboration with Miebach to connect design, planning and execution functions across supply chains.

The announcement came one week before Coupa Inspire, an event where leaders will learn about AI applications in procurement and supply chain management.

Connecting fragmented operations

Coupa operates an autonomous spend management platform that automates purchasing and transaction processes for buyers and suppliers. The company is now working with Miebach to create unification across procurement and supply chain functions.

Miebach is a global supply chain consulting and engineering firm. The company works on optimisation of manufacturing, warehousing and distribution operations, as well as design and planning transformation.

The partnership aims to improve supply chain decision-making through a unified Design-to-Plan approach. This approach will connect design, planning and execution functions that have traditionally operated in isolation.

Supply chain and procurement operations have historically relied on spreadsheets and paper trails. Information spread across fragmented data sets could lead to longer processing times and increased errors.

Volatility and supply chain disruptions have made traditional solutions insufficient. Leaders are now expected to align operational and financial decisions, which requires closer collaboration and adaptation capabilities.

The solution will unite functions to develop more aligned supply chains. This alignment could help organisations develop greater resilience.

Embedding intelligence into planning

The collaboration between Coupa and Miebach will help organisations create more adaptive planning investments. Businesses will be able to embed scenario analysis, optimisation and decision intelligence into Integrated Business Planning, Sales and Operations Planning and broader supply chain operating models.

This could transform organisations into more executable decision-makers. Unification across cost, service, risk, resilience and sustainability could replace fragmentation across business goals.

The collaboration aims to create stronger collaborative alignment. This alignment could help businesses organise priorities and deliver actionable strategies.

"Supply chains need more than just faster planning, they need better intelligence and decisioning," says Dean Bain, SVP and GM, Supply Chain of Coupa.

AI-driven scenario modelling

Dean explains that the collaboration will help organisations add a layer of actionable intelligence. "Through our collaboration with Miebach, we are helping organisations add a layer of actionable intelligence that connects design, planning and execution, enabling more adaptive, executable decisions in increasingly dynamic environments," he says.

He adds that Coupa's category strategy solution, powered by Cirtuo, is the engine powering this shift.

"Coupa's leading category strategy solution, powered by Cirtuo, is the engine powering this shift, using AI-driven intelligence to dynamically translate corporate goals into executable sourcing constraints, ensuring every material dollar is spent wisely and strategically," he says.

The collaboration will use Coupa's AI-native end-to-end supply chain design and optimisation capabilities. This includes digital twin-based scenario modelling.

Miebach will demonstrate its expertise in supply chain strategy, planning transformation and execution-oriented operating model design. The combination could connect capabilities that have previously operated in separate teams with different tools and decision cycles.

Accuracy in real-world conditions

An inability to collaborate could cause delays and larger costs throughout an organisation. Stronger alignment across functions could be necessary for successful operations.

"Decisions only matter if they are accurate and hold up in the real world," explains Nick Banich, Equity Partner and Chief Revenue Officer for Miebach US and CA.

Nick notes that many organisations have strong capabilities in both network design and planning, but these sit with different teams: "Many organisations have strong capabilities in both network design and planning, but they sit with different teams, tools and decision cycles.

"The real unlock comes when those capabilities work seamlessly together. This unique collaboration helps connect those investments, enabling organisations to bring strong design intelligence into planning and drive more accurate, profitable decisions."

The collaboration aims to help companies achieve several objectives:

  • Increase alignment capabilities across supply chain design, planning and execution
  • Enhance scenario planning through AI-driven decision-making
  • Increase resilience across the supply chain by using dynamic evaluation
  • Connect operational decisions and financial outcomes
  • Ensure greater adaptability across end-to-end supply chains

Coupa is focusing initially on strategic sourcing, inventory deployment, capacity planning and resilience scenarios. The collaboration will expand over time to address specific customer issues.
