Coupa & Tonkean: Making Supply Chains More Efficient With AI

Coupa has announced its acquisition of Tonkean, an agentic intake and orchestration platform. The move could mean procurement teams gain automated workflow capabilities that connect directly into supplier networks.
Leagh Turner, Coupa CEO, says: "The acquisition of Tonkean is game-changing for Coupa and the market. For twenty years, we've built a global trade network that brings together buyers and sellers for the purpose of optimising trade and spend. To date, we've delivered more than US$300bn of value to that network and amassed a data set of US$10tn."
According to Coupa, the acquisition addresses three requirements for autonomous transaction execution between buyers and suppliers. These include industrial-grade and unified orchestration, buyer and supplier workflows and clean data.
"With the acquisitions of Rossum and Tonkean, in short order, we have now amassed all the assets to make this promise possible for both buyers and suppliers at a time when buying and selling is getting more complex and costly. We couldn't be more excited to welcome Sagi and the Tonkean team to Coupa," adds Leagh.
Four recent procurement acquisitions
Coupa has completed four acquisitions in recent months. The transactions could show a strategy to build what the company describes as an agentic trade network.
In late 2025, Coupa signed a definitive agreement to acquire Scoutbee, an AI-powered supplier discovery platform. The integration could mean procurement teams access 10m users through Coupa's platform for buyer-supplier matching.
According to Coupa, the Scoutbee acquisition automates up to 80% of data entry during supplier onboarding. The platform also provides risk and ESG intelligence for procurement operations.
At Coupa Inspire 2025, the company announced its acquisition of Cirtuo, a Croatian AI-driven category management platform. The integration targets autonomous procurement within what Coupa calls its Total Spend Management framework.
Document processing and orchestration
At Coupa Inspire 2026, CEO Leagh Turner announced Coupa's acquisition of Rossum, described as a market leader in intelligent document processing. The companies had partnered since 2024 to automate complex AP invoicing.
According to Coupa, the Rossum acquisition extends document processing across its source-to-pay portfolio. The combined capabilities could deliver what the company describes as agentic trade and autonomous spend management.
"This is a deliberate, strategic step toward building the number one agentic trade network and delivering autonomous spend management at speed and scale like no one else in the market," says Salvatore Lombardo, Chief Product and Technology Officer of Coupa.
"We've assembled the ultimate procurement toolkit: a US$10trn data foundation, eyes to read any document, intelligence to source smarter, and now the ultimate engine to orchestrate modern, agentic work. Tonkean brings a 100% no-code process builder and 250+ native connectors that wrap seamlessly around customers' existing architecture.
"This delivers advanced orchestration and unified integrations on day one with zero rip-and-replace. With Tonkean natively embedded in Coupa, customers get best-in-class orchestration and the best spend platform they already trust, in a single, unified agentic architecture."
Supplier connectivity and workflow automation
Tonkean brings a natural language interface to Coupa. Users can submit and track requests through the system. The platform includes a framework for multi-agent orchestration and agent-to-agent coordination.
According to Coupa, the combined systems execute complex workflows and replace manual handoffs. The company states this reduces cycle times by 50% and saves operations teams more than 30 hours a week.
Suppliers could benefit from unified API integration that facilitates one-to-many connections. According to Coupa, this enables suppliers to grow their businesses faster through the platform.
"We couldn't have created a more powerful combination in the market than joining forces with Coupa, unlocking tremendous value to customers far and wide," says Sagi Eliyahu, Co-Founder and CEO at Tonkean.
"With our industrial-grade intake and orchestration now serving as the backbone and foundation for their industry-leading agentic trade network and data, we will seamlessly connect buyers, sellers, and agents in a unified way to deliver autonomous trade in a way that no other company can match, and in turn drive exponential business value for customers. This massive opportunity greatly excites my team and me, and we are thrilled to join Coupa."
