Coupa has acquired A document processing firm Rossum to automate invoice handling and extend intelligent capabilities across its spend management platform

Coupa has acquired Rossum to extend intelligent document processing capabilities across its spend management platform. The deal was announced at Coupa Inspire 2026 in Las Vegas.

The acquisition builds on a partnership between the two companies that began in 2024. Rossum's AI-first technology automates invoice processing for accounts payable teams.

Coupa plans to deploy Rossum's intelligent document processing across its entire portfolio. This could enable autonomous spend management through agentic AI.

Processing complex invoicing

Rossum's technology handles complex invoicing across direct and indirect spend categories. The system uses a specialised transactional large language model for document processing.

Customers currently use Rossum's embedded capabilities within the Coupa platform for accounts payable functions. They can now access the intelligent document processing technology for faster processing and cost savings.

The technology provides data control in procurement operations that span multiple spend categories. According to Coupa, this addresses document processing requirements across the source-to-pay function.

Rossum's architecture moves beyond legacy optical character recognition technology. The system's transactional intelligence uses a proprietary domain-specific model.

Targeting procurement savings

"Rossum changes the game entirely," says Leagh Turner, CEO at Coupa.

"As a strong partner since 2024, we know there is incredible value in bringing the two companies together across the entire source-to-pay function."

According to Leagh, Coupa has delivered more than US$300bn in customer savings over the past 20 years. The combined capabilities could help customers save the next US$300bn in five years.

"The combined value of Coupa and Rossum has been proven in AP and invoicing, and we see massive future value in applying Rossum's T-LLM and AI-first technology across the Coupa platform," Leagh adds.

"We believe we can help them save the next US$300bn in five with a system of decision and intelligence that is unrivalled."

AI-first document processing

Rossum's proprietary model has been trained on tens of millions of documents. The system continuously learns from each customer's document set.

This could accelerate time-to-value for procurement teams processing supplier invoices and purchase orders. The technology will work alongside Coupa's Navi agentic fleet.

Customers could gain intelligent document processing benefits across their entire source-to-pay process. This spans supplier management, purchase requisitions, invoice receipt and payment processing.

"Joining Coupa is the natural evolution of a years-long partnership built on a shared AI-first culture," adds Tomáš Gogár, Co-Founder and CEO at Rossum.

Combining transactional intelligence

"By combining our proprietary T-LLM transactional intelligence with Coupa's massive US$10tn data set, we are well positioned to create immediate customer value and fundamentally change how the world buys and sells," Tomáš says.

According to Tomáš, the timing aligns with business adoption of AI.

"We're excited to join Coupa, especially at this critical acceleration of how businesses use and adopt AI," he says.

The deal brings together Rossum's document processing capabilities with Coupa's spend management platform. This could affect how companies process supplier documents and manage procurement workflows.

Kirkland & Ellis served as counsel to Coupa with respect to the transaction. Guggenheim Securities served as exclusive financial advisor and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe served as legal advisor to Rossum.
