How Checkpoint is Boosting Efficiency with RFID Smart Labels

Checkpoint Systems is integrating the new RAIN RFID UCODE X chip into its smart labels, in a move to make Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) tools work much more efficiently across retailers and warehouses.
Through this integration, Checkpoint will see improvements to performance across operations, ensuring it can meet growing customer demands.
Offering operational improvements
Checkpoint Systems is a global leader in RFID/RF-driven loss prevention, branding, supply chain management, inventory control and traceability. Its business data intelligence solutions offer brands across many markets a more cohesive approach to profitability, as well as seamless consumer experiences.
It offers a combination of cloud-based SaaS, connected hardware, labels and tags which offer stronger, more intelligent solutions which increase efficiency for companies across their supply chain.
Its RFID capabilities are applied across retail and industry, but it is now working to strengthen its contactless identification capabilities through the integration of the RAIN RFID UCODE X chip into its smart labels. The chip, developed by NXP Semiconductors, increases performance, delivers configurable memory and high-quality integration flexibility.
NXP Semiconductors is a leading semiconductor manufacturer, working to build solutions which enhance the capabilities of people and organisations around the world. It designs purpose-build and heavily tested technologies which enable devices to act and connect intelligently to people's lives.
“At Checkpoint Systems, we are committed to embedding the most advanced technologies into our smart labels to provide high-performance, reliable RFID solutions tailored to our customers’ needs,” explains Inge Fleuren, Global Product Solutions Manager RFID at Checkpoint Systems.
“The integration of the UCODE X chip perfectly reflects this commitment. We are proud to rely on the recognized expertise of our partner NXP, whose continuous innovation helps us anticipate future market needs.”

Increasing efficiency
By adopting the NXP UCODE X chip as soon it was launched on the market, Checkpoint has demonstrated its quick response times and attention to market trends. Its expertise in anticipating trends means that it is a leader in delivering modern RFID solutions which meet current demands, rather than lagging behind the competition. As a result, its solutions are efficient and meet the operational challenges of its customers.
This quick integration translates into major performance improvements, with some models seeing an increase up to -3dBm. This means extended read ranges and improved data reliability. This is particularly useful for features such as inventory management, product traceability and logistics optimisation.
As a result, retailers and warehouse operators are seeing an increase in efficiency alongside more accurate readings, resulting in stronger supply chains that can be better maintained. Following this move, Checkpoint became one of the first manufacturers to achieve the ARC certification from Auburn University RFID Lab for several of its newly equipped inlays.
Meeting customer demands
The NXP UCODE X chip is specifically engineered to meet the growing demands of RAIN RFID applications. It combines industry-leading read and write sensitivity with EPC and user memory, allowing it to offer a wider range of advanced flexibility for customised use cases.
The chip uses non-proprietary features, which allows it to seamlessly integrate across popular RFID inlay formats and is complaint with EPC Gen2 standards. As a result, it ensures faster and more accurate reads, even in challenging and fast-paced RFID environments.
“With UCODE X, we are expanding what is possible in RAIN RFID," says Ralf Kodritsch, Senior Director, UCODE RFID at NXP.
"Together with our partner Checkpoint and their market-ready solutions, we will accelerate adoption and advance our mission to tag everything with UCODE X—bringing high-performance, standards-based solutions to more products and more markets."
Checkpoint will begin the rollout of the chip across its solutions this year, reaffirming its dedication to innovation and efficiency. Through its keen eye on market trends, Checkpoint is ensuring its customers gain efficient and connected supply chains.
