Yodel, the UK parcel carrier, has significantly simplified and improved its reporting processes around parcels arriving at its service centres. The change is part of a wide-ranging overhaul of its supply chain management strategy achieved with Teradata Corporation, the big data analytics and marketing applications company.

The independent carrier which handles 155 million items each year, is driving efficiency across its operations having deployed a cost-effective and best-of-breed Teradata solution comprising two appliances. Using the new solution, reporting now takes mere seconds with data for better decision-making presented in clear and visual ways.

Adam Gerrard, CIO at Yodel, said: “Teradata technology has given us huge improvements, providing faster and timelier insights and greater control of our business and its relationships with clients. We now have our data consolidated in one place, supplying the insights which will allow us to provide even greater levels of client satisfaction no matter how great the demands are.”

Previous reporting processes at the company have been replaced, simplifying multiple reports to just three dashboards, resulting in faster decision-making based on real-time data. These efficiency gains have been achieved through Teradata’s seamless integration of its cutting-edge technology with third-party tools.

Yodel now has near-immediate access to key metrics throughout its business, leading to step-change improvements in deliveries, parcel tracking, billing and fulfilment of client requirements. The project began in the summer of 2014 and was fully operational before Yodel’s peak period in the run up to Christmas.

Yodel has more than 60 locations in the UK and a relationship with 85 percent of the country’s top retailers. Its clients say they are delighted with the improved insights and performance measurements that the new technology provides.

Eamonn Hughes, Country Manager of Teradata UK & Ireland, said: “We are extremely pleased Yodel has selected Teradata to drive the efficiency of its complex UK-wide parcel carrier business.

“By deploying our technology, Yodel can look forward to conducting more detailed analysis of its operations, gaining faster and deeper insights that lead to on-the-ground improvements in service delivery, client satisfaction and overall efficiency.”

Teradata helps companies get more value from data and its portfolio of big data analytic solutions, integrated marketing applications, and services can help organisations gain a sustainable competitive advantage. Visit teradata.com for more information.
