Why SG Holdings Decided to Acquire Morrison Express

Amid global disruption, logistics organisations stand to boost competitive differentiation and increase customer trust by strengthening their global influence.
With this in mind, Japanese logistics leader SG Holdings has acquired freight forwarding specialist Morrison Express in a bid to expand its presence in Asia.
The deal is set to drive operational efficiencies, global network coverage and service reliability, as SG Holdings looks to offer end-to-end supply chain solutions across ocean, air, rail and road freight.
"The acquisition will significantly enhance global network coverage, allowing the SG Holdings Group to provide better logistics solutions across different regions," says Bokuto Yamauchi, Head of the Global Strategy Department at SG Holdings and Chairman and CEO of the Expolanka Group.
"Morrison Express' established relationships within the technology sector and strong Asian market presence, combined with their expertise in semiconductor logistics, perfectly complements our existing capabilities and forward-thinking approach to supply chain management."
A strategic acquisition
SG Holdings is set to integrate Morrison Expressâ strengths in high-tech logistics and semiconductors with its own wealth of innovative supply chain solutions and large logistics network.
Morrison Expressâ strength in air freight and high-tech verticals will complement SG Holdings' efforts in ocean freight forwarding and commercial verticals, currently led by EFL Global, its core freight forwarding company.
By integrating infrastructure and resources, the acquisition will also drive faster and more reliable service.
The merger immediately enhances value for customers by improving operational efficiency through access to new resources, advanced technology and a strengthened infrastructureâall working together to deliver faster and more reliable service.
With a broader geographic presence, the combined organisation is positioned closer to customers, enabling more responsive support and service.
Customers will gain access to seamless end-to-end supply chain solutions across air, ocean, rail, and road freight, along with customised offerings that capitalise on Morrison's strong supplier and partner network in the technology sector.
SG Holdingsâ long-term vision
SG Holdings has showcased its commitment to sustainability through its vision for 2030: 'Grow the new Story: New logistics, nurturing a new society together.'
This vision will create future value and enhance its commitment to collaborating with diverse partners, customers and colleagues to improve logistics.
SG Holdings launched the âSGH Story 2024â as a mid-term management plan to help drive progress in reaching its long-term objectives. It focuses on securing sustainable growth by creating next-generation competitive advantages, such as expanding management resources to enhance its competitiveness and improving comprehensive logistics solutions.
SG Holdings continues to remain driven to tackle challenges such as technological advancements, climate change and demographic shifts.
Its acquisition of Morrison Express allows the company to contribute to a more sustainable society while achieving business growth by 2030 by expanding its expertise.
Eiichi Kuriwada, Chairperson and CEO of SG Holdings, states: "At SG Holdings Group, we view the logistics business as part of our social infrastructure. The SG Holdings Group Charter of Corporate Conduct, which is a statement of our corporate philosophy, discusses "stakeholder management"âour efforts to meet the expectations of all the stakeholders of our business: customers, employees, local communities, shareholders, and business partners. We are advancing our efforts to realize a sustainable society, from a variety of perspectives.
"In recent years, the logistics business has become widely accepted as part of our social infrastructure. Fortunately for us, although society has been changing dramatically, our company has been able to maintain a solid business. This is a very happy outcome, but we also have a strong sense of responsibility that society's expectations of our industry as a whole have risen sharply."
SG Holding boosts presence in Asia
SG Holdingsâ acquisition of Morrison Express will enhance its presence in Asia by widening its market reach and logistics network.
It will lead to faster, more flexible logistics solutions by improving air freight services that complement SG Holdingsâ ocean freight strengths.
SG Holdings will also gain access to key markets and clients through Morrison Expressâ secure relationships in the region.
By widening its global footprint, SG Holdings will improve its supply chain efficiency, cross-border trade and service responsiveness.
As Asiaâs logistics sector continues to grow, the business is set to secure its position as a strong competitor across e-commerce-driven and high-tech industries.
