Bidfood Netherlands expands its electric fleet with Renault Trucks E-Tech
Bidfood Netherlands, a premier wholesale food supplier, is collaborating with Renault Trucks to revolutionise food logistics – one electric truck at a time

As a leader in the wholesale food supply since 1949, Bidfood Netherlands consistently advances sustainability within the food logistics sector.

The company serves around 25,000 customers across the Netherlands and is making significant strides in reducing its environmental impact by incorporating electric vehicles (EVs) into its delivery fleet.

In a bid to enhance its offering, Bidfood Netherlands has established a partnership with Renault Trucks that introduces electric trucks specifically designed for deliveries to the hospitality sector, including restaurants and hotels.

Renault Trucks' E-Tech series, crafted at the factory in Blainville-sur-Orne, France, presents a premier sustainable solution in the logistics field, with Bidfood Netherlands emerging as a principal adopter of this technology.

Expanding the electric fleet

Expanding its electric fleet, Bidfood Netherlands recently ordered an additional 25 Renault Trucks E-Tech vehicles, doubling its  zero-emission fleet to a total of 50 trucks.

The strategic move represents a substantial step towards decarbonising the company's logistics operations.

Renault Trucks, which is positioned at the forefront of sustainable logistics, recognises the increasing industrial demand for electrification.

Jérôme Berthelet, Managing Director of Renault Trucks Netherlands, comments: "For three years, we have worked closely with Bidfood to integrate EVs into their fleet and address the operational challenges of their logistics.

"This collaboration has enabled us to develop customised solutions aligned with their constraints and decarbonisation ambitions."

Measurable impact on emissions reduction

Since integrating an initial 25 Renault Trucks E-Tech vehicles in 2021, Bidfood Netherlands has successfully avoided 230 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

It's an achievement that highlights the firm's ongoing commitment to not only enhancing logistic efficiency but also reducing the environmental impact associated with its operations.

Dick Slootweg, Managing Director of Bidfood Netherlands, outlines the benefits of improved electromobility: "These tangible results show that electromobility is not a distant ambition but an operational and effective reality. It allows us to reduce our environmental footprint while meeting our customers' growing expectations for sustainability."

With an additional 25 electric trucks being integrated during Q1 2025, Bidfood Netherlands aims to further bolster its sustainable logistics strategy.

Renault Trucks' role in sustainable mobility

As the first European factory to mass-produce electric trucks, Renault Trucks' production site in Blainville-sur-Orne is pivotal to the electromobility shift.

Since March 2020, this facility has been manufacturing the Renault Trucks E-Tech D and D Wide models, which are medium-duty electric vehicles ideal for urban and suburban transport services.

The delivery of the 2,000th electric truck from this site to Bidfood Netherlands marks a significant industry milestone, emphasising the growing shift toward decarbonised logistic solutions. By expanding their fleet of EVs, businesses like Bidfood Netherlands pave the way for the future of sustainable transport.

The ongoing partnership between Bidfood Netherlands and Renault Trucks is illustrative of a broader industry trend that favours eco-friendly solutions without compromising operational efficiency. As the food distribution sector increasingly aligns with ecological objectives, Bidfood Netherlands is solidifying its leadership in responsible logistics.
