Why Qatar Airways, IAG and MASkargo Have Formed an Alliance

Qatar Airways Cargo, IAG Cargo and MASkargo: three giants of the air freight sphere.
Now, in a bid to further enhance service levels for customers and partners across the international air cargo sector, the trio have revealed plans to form a Global Cargo Joint Business, pending regulatory approval.
Bringing together three of the industry's key players, the collaboration focuses on strengthening customer offerings and creating new operational efficiencies. It is designed to offer greater service flexibility and faster transit options across a combined network spanning major global trade lanes.
"Today marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to redefine the global air cargo landscape," comments Mark Drusch, Chief Officer Cargo at Qatar Airways Cargo.
"This agreement will bring together three strong players to offer unparalleled service and global connectivity, reinforcing our commitment to customer satisfaction and operational excellence."
Improving connectivity
Through their collective infrastructure and knowledge, Qatar Airways Cargo, IAG Cargo and MASkargo intend to streamline product offerings and improve connectivity across their shared networks.
Customers can expect quicker transit times and access to new routing options.
The companies are also working together to develop harmonised safety and security standards that reflect the highest levels of industry best practice. By combining resources, the carriers aim to establish a more agile and customer-focused air freight service, better suited to the shifting demands of global supply chains.
The partnership intends to make air freight more accessible and efficient. Customers will be able to broaden their global shipping options, benefitting from the extensive reach of the combined networks. By building a more connected cargo system, the joint business looks to meet the growing needs of worldwide trade and logistics.
"This agreement is a testament to our history of bringing businesses together," notes David Shepherd, CEO at IAG Cargo.
"With years of experience in forging successful collaborations, we understand the real value they bring. This joint business not only unlocks choice and opportunities for our customers but also enhances connectivity for the businesses and industries they serve, further strengthening the role air cargo plays in facilitating global trade."
Strengthening customer offerings
The collaboration highlights the carriers' ambitions to drive customer-centred improvements in service and network performance.
By working together, they hope to increase access to key markets and better support industries that rely heavily on air freight for critical supply chains.
As Malaysia's premier air cargo operator, MASkargo, the cargo arm of Malaysia Airlines, brings essential capacity and regional expertise to the venture.
Mark Jason Thomas, CEO at MASkargo, adds: "This strategic collaboration marks a pivotal moment for MASkargo and the air cargo industry. We are excited to partner with Qatar Airways Cargo and IAG Cargo to deliver a new era of value and innovation to our customers.
"By leveraging our combined strengths and expertise, we will provide enhanced service offerings, expanded global reach and cutting-edge solutions that address the evolving needs of the global market, ensuring greater efficiency and connectivity for our partners and customers."
Together, the three carriers are positioning themselves to offer a more dynamic and integrated service for businesses worldwide. They seek to address the changing logistics landscape through improved service models, innovative solutions and a commitment to operational excellence.
As the partnership progresses towards regulatory approval, customers and partners can look forward to a strengthened network that meets the high standards of modern air freight demands.
