Movianto’s Bold Expansion of Frozen Transport Solutions

Part of the Walden Group since 2020, Movianto strives to be the preferred European logistics partner for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, providing premium service in the realm of pharmaceutical and biotech products, medical devices and diagnostics.
As an outsourcing partner along the logistics chain for such products, the organisation offers temperature-controlled warehouse logistics and transport, as well as complete solutions such as order to cash or purchasing and procurement services.
Movianto’s latest engagement in the UK is to support the 2024/2025 autumn vaccine and flu campaigns, which – for the first time in its history – has involved expanding its distribution and delivery capabilities to include active frozen transport solutions.
This enables the transport of vaccines and other lifesaving medicines at up to -25C.
Ben Williams, Account Director for Government Contracts at Movianto UK, explains: “Building on long-established partnerships and supply chain relationships as fleet and industry experts, we’ve introduced additional capability to support our key contracts in facilitating active frozen distribution and delivery of COVID-19 and seasonal flu vaccines to the UK healthcare system and NHS end users.
“This is significantly reducing costs, improving delivery lead times and creating a more agile solution.”
Distribution and delivery at -25C
Movianto has amassed plenty of experience over the years in the storage, distribution and delivery of vaccines and medicines within the UK market.
This has included ambient, ambient temperature-controlled, chilled and frozen solutions.
However, the traditional method for distribution and delivery of vaccines at -25C requires the use of passive shippers and dry-ice packing – both of which are expensive and time restricted.
With the arrival of the autumn seasonal campaign, Movianto worked to configure and validate existing trailers and fleet within its network to operate at -25C. Trailer units have now been successfully readied for holding and transporting cargo at frozen temperatures.
“Our teammates no longer need to specially prepare and pack vaccines into shippers with dry ice,” says David Evans, Managing Director at Movianto UK. “Instead, they can load the goods straight onto the trailers which can dock directly into our temperature-controlled warehouse facilities.
“The additional capability of active frozen vaccine transport is a good example of how logistics chains – even for the same products – can evolve, become more efficient and meet the needs of clients.
“This is exactly why we’ve continuously developed and optimised our methods and supply chains. If this requires investment, we’re willing and able to partner with clients to implement tailored solutions.”
